Hi,

I'm trying to fix a friends laptop after the wireless failed a couple of days ago. Using the Windows wireless tool, it gets stuck when it needs to aquire a network address and thus does not connect.

I'm able to connect to the network on another computer so know it to be working and can access the internet thru an ethernet connection but just not the wireless.

I've tried renewing the IP and can't see any blocks in the router either.

A quick dump of ipconfig shows:

Windows IP Configuration
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.2
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Autoconfiguration IP Address. . . : 169.254.225.201
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :

Any ideas?

Thanks

Is your TCP/IP configuration setup to use DHCP, or is that a static IP? Try going into your TCP/IP properties and clicking "Obtain an IP address automatically".
