Ok, So I'm running on a Windows XP Media Center Edition PC and I have Service Pack 2. I regularly use trainers for my games and they usually come packed in a .zip or .rar file. I don't always have an issue with them but as of late, Windows just does not want to extract the trainer.exe file. If its in a .zip files it says "this file came from another computer, some files have been blocked in extraction for your safety" or something along those lines. I also have followed the Windows help log by going to the files properties and unblocking the file. it still will not extract. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. THank you for your time!

Try unzipping files with 7-Zip.
Download it from here: http://www.7-zip.org/
Install it and right click on the file you want to unzip. Then go to 7-Zip and choose Extract Files.

I regularly use trainers for my games

Where do you get them from?

the trainer.exe file

If a file has the extension .exe then just double click the file. You can't extract it.

i use 7-zip and have for a couple years now, mainly for mods. The trainers I have downloaded have the .exe and a .txt or .nfo file packed with them in either a .zip or .rar file. I usually get them from either Megagames.com or Mofunzone.com. usually the latter though.

Try unlocking the .zip archive before unzipping it using Unlocker: http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/
Or Lockhunter: http://lockhunter.com/

I downloaded a Sims 2 trainer from Megagames and it unzipped fine.
Try using this file archiver: http://www.izarc.org/

What is the exact message, you're getting?
It looks like a message from some security program.

the exact message that pops up is part of the windows extraction wizard. it says "to help protect your computaer, some files were blocked."

Are you saving the files first before opening them?

This is a stupid permissions issue. If you are running Windows Defender, this will happen sometimes.

Did you try changing file permissions as described here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308419

This is a stupid permissions issue

i tried the changing the persmissions. i did exactly what it said and i actually cant view the security tab for the .zip file. i checked the folder options and use simple sharing is on, nvm turned it off and can view the tab now, but i still dont understand how to grant special permissions.

Can you upload any of those zipped files, you can't unzip?

Also, did you try 3rd party zip program, like 7-zip: http://www.7-zip.org/
