Hi there, I have come here from time to time and found the answers to sooo many questions.
Now I have one i can't seem to find an easy fix for.

My laptop is running unbelievably slow.
It's an 2004 XP 2.8 gig toshiba satelite with 488 ram. I thought it was a ram problem so i put in another 256, but it did nothing to speed it up. it just hangs for minutes when i open programs and such. everything it does is slllooowww. my other computers are insanely fast compared to this laptop.

*Click Here to download Killbox by Option^Explicit.
*Extract the program to your desktop and double-click on its folder, then double-click on Killbox.exe to start the program.
*In the killbox program, select the Delete on Reboot option.
*Open the text file with these instructions in it, and copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\CMD.COM
C:\WINDOWS\system32\netstat.com
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ping.com

*Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".
*Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

After the reboot run HijackThis again. Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

I am not sure this has helped my cpu speed, i'll let you know. But I did find that p2pnetworking thing by looking at other posts.

Also, there is no extraction file for the killbox, it simply downloads as the exe.

Just for the record, this is my hijack this after the cleaning.

I think I may have found another problem.
I ran the ewido again today and It found a ton of files. They were all the following:

located in the C:/documents and settings/user/shared folder
3,007 files, total of about 3 gigs
all in .rar format
all 400mb in size
all with different names, from a-b adremover v3.0 to winmp3 v4.0 etc etc.

ewido wasnt able to get rid of them. i had to delete them all manualy.

I know the deffinition of a *virus* is a program that replicates itself, so that must be what it is... but I am unsure how to find the originating file.

Is your computer networked?

Usually one of the files yopu have deleted would have been the original infector.
I'm pretty sure ewido would have recognized it if it finds the offspring.

But if you are on a network then the other computers deserve to be checked for the presence of it as well.
