Ok i opened up the cover, swapped the 2 memory sticks, tried rebooting and same thing, except this time there were 6 beeps. Changed them back and the beeps are still there. Should i just ring Dell and pay the money?

Did you try booting with only 1 stick?
If 1 stick does not work, then try with the other stick.

You need to try with 1 stick at a time.
Did you also try Memtest86 from my signature?

Well, lets see, download a Linux called SLAX. Burn a cd, then boot your computer with the cd in (you will need to burn a ISO, special burner program). SLAX runns off the cd and RAM. Not the HD.
If SLAX boots and runs from the cd, that might help us figure out whats broke.
Several cd burner programs work for ISO, I use CD burner XP, free on filehippo.com.
Its a big file, but worth having.
Let us know if you can do that.

Download the file called: dsl-4.4.10.iso
Then burn it to a CD with BurnCDCC: http://www.terabyteu...ee-software.htm

Slax is a very good distro. Did you try Ubuntu before... you might want to check out Fedora too.
