No problem, It just seems like I have tried and tried again and the same results happen. I have retyped everything, I even attempted cut and paste. Everything appears to work until I attempt to delete the file C:\windows\repair\catip.dll Here goes nothing. I just wonder if there is something running that I need to disable or remove? I'll go try again. Talk to you in a few. Thanks.

Ok Still no luck, I tried disconnecting the internet and disabling my norton's...I still can't see anything in the proc exp under the winlogon.exe threads, I can delete the stuff in the explore.exe (all 4 items). HJT runs, and appears to work, but everytime I scan I get the same 2 catip.dll files. I can't seem to delete them from that process. But I have run HJT selected the files and after the process is complete I can double click the vundo.reg file (regedit) appears to run successfully, and that is about as good as it gets. Killbox will not run. I get to type in the file to delete, but as soon as it finishes verifying registry files I get the PendingFileRenamingOperation message...and nothing happens after I acknowledge it. I can exit or do anythng I want to, but it will not attempt to delete the catip.dll file.

Ok, we're going to try this. It's going to be a combination of a few things and I need them done EXACTLY as specified (you may want to print these out!). If this does not work, I will ask the other staff members about the next option :tazz:

1.)Make sure you have the newest symantec removal tool (fixVundoB.exe). If you have the older version (FixVundo.exe), please download the new version from here:
http://securityrespo...moval.tool.html

2.)I need you to reboot into safe mode (using F8).

3.)Once in Safe Mode, disable Norton Auto-Protect (right-click the system tray icon to do this) and disable anything other protection program you may have running.

4.)Run the symantec removal tool. When it says the file will be deleted on reboot. (if it asks if you want to reboot now click NO) I need you to do this as well, (this way maybe one of the programs will get this stubborn dude!):

(if you have any trouble with this HiJackThis part, skip it and go to the next step.)
Open HijackThis.
Click on "Open Misc Tools Section"
Click on "Delete a file on reboot"
Browse to this file:

C:\WINDOWS\repair\catip.dll

Then click OPEN.
Click YES when asked the "are you sure" question.

5.)Reboot your computer and while it's restarting go BACK INTO SAFE MODE!

6.)Run the removal tool again (hopefully it won't find anything!)

7.)While still in Safe Mode, run HijackThis and place a check beside the following item and click FIX CHECKED:

O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {44240BB5-BD7D-4D49-A1AA-8AB0F3D3CB44} - C:\WINDOWS\repair\catip.dll

O20 - Winlogon Notify: catip - C:\WINDOWS\repair\catip.dll

8.)Double-click "fixvundo.reg" that's on your desktop.

9.)Do this AGAIN (I sure hope it's gone by this point!):
(if you have any trouble with this HiJackThis part, skip it and just reboot to normal mode.)
Open HijackThis.
Click on "Open Misc Tools Section"
Click on "Delete a file on reboot"
Browse to this file:

C:\WINDOWS\repair\catip.dll

Then click OPEN.
Click YES when asked the "are you sure" question.

10.)Finally reboot your computer into normal mode and let me if there was any success at all!

Ok, I did almost EXACTLY as specified. (I'm starting over now, but this is what I did)

1.) I have the FxVundoB Removal Tool 1.0.0.0

2.)I rebooted into safe mode (using F8).

3.)I disabled Norton's Auto protect nothing else is running that I know about.

4.)I ran the Run the symantec removal tool. I got this message:

1 file(s) could not be deleted.
They will be deleted on next reboot.

The total number of the scanned files: 90037
The number of deleted threat files: 5
The number of threat processes terminated: 0
The number of registry entries fixed: 5

To clean up all remnants of the threat from the system it must be rebooted.

I didn't reboot... I
Opened HijackThis.
Clicked on "Open Misc Tools Section"
Clicked on "Delete a file on reboot"
Browse to this file:

C:\WINDOWS\repair\catip.dll

Then clicked OPEN.
Clicked YES when asked the "are you sure" question.

5. and rebooted BACK INTO SAFE MODE!

6.)Ran the removal tool again.

1 file(s) could not be deleted.
They will be deleted on next reboot.

The total number of the scanned files: 90038
The number of deleted threat files: 1
The number of threat processes terminated: 0
The number of registry entries fixed: 5

To clean up all remnants of the threat from the system it must be rebooted.
I didn't reboot...
7.)While still in Safe Mode, I ran HijackThis and placed a check beside the following item and click FIX CHECKED:

O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {44240BB5-BD7D-4D49-A1AA-8AB0F3D3CB44} - C:\WINDOWS\repair\catip.dll

O20 - Winlogon Notify: catip - C:\WINDOWS\repair\catip.dll

8.)I Ran "FxVundoB.exe" Removal tool again. Since I'm starting overI'll make sure to run the fixvundo.reg this time. BUt this is the message I got:

1 file(s) could not be deleted.
They will be deleted on next reboot.

The total number of the scanned files: 90040
The number of deleted threat files: 1
The number of threat processes terminated: 0
The number of registry entries fixed: 5

To clean up all remnants of the threat from the system it must be rebooted.

9.) I Openen HijackThis.
Clicked on "Open Misc Tools Section"
Clicked on "Delete a file on reboot"
Browsed to this file:

C:\WINDOWS\repair\catip.dll

Then clicked OPEN.
Clicked YES when asked the "are you sure" question.

10.)Rebooted into normal mode. And Ewido security suite alarmed on catip.dll!!! I won't be as detailed on the next post, but I'll let you know what happens.

I repeated all the instructions again, and replaced the Removal tool with the fixvundob.reg in step 8. Everything appears to run just fine, but When I reboot, whatever I turn on alerts on catip.dll. I've turned Norton's off and EWIDO alerts, I've booted up and turned EWIDO off , as soon as I get Norton on the virus alert message pops up...

I had been attempting to use different combinations of things with HJT and Killbox and fixvundo.reg the removal tool FxVundoB, but nothing seems to get the job done for me. I also tried to delete stuff manually, in regedit, but the HKeys come back pretty fast. Thanks for helping, I'm not ready to give-up.

I ran Hijackthis and checked fix this: O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Ace Fast Keep Defy] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Aim Wipe Ace Fast\WebEq.exe, but when I went to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ I can't find the Aim Wipe Ace Fast folder? I went ahead and got a stratupList report...

Ew, your system has a LOP infection too. LOP + Vundo = tons of fun! :tazz:

I'll be back as soon as I figure out our next course of action.

Great, I'm not sure if I should be happy or sad. It is great that you have found something, but I'm not sure if that makes things better or worse. It is almost a bitter sweet. Now, I just can't figure out why none of the virus scans that I've done have detected or prevented either of these? Thanks for all your hardwork. Harold
