Today while connected to the network at work, my laptop slowed down and basically stopped. After a hard reboot, I got an error that said 'windows cannot load the local profile, etc. This was after it stayed at loading your personal settings box for a very long time. After calling a friend, I logged in as admin and created a new profile. The new profile has less stuff on the desktop than the old profile and I could not connect to the internet but I could connect to our network. Now that I"m home, I still cannot connect to the internet thru my wireless dsl modem, the connection doesn't even show up. I ran windows defender, ccleaner and malwarebytes anti-malware. Only malware found 3 infectins in the registry and cleaned them out. I have used the computer to surf the net at work and at home but have not had any consistant pop ups or redirections. Only once did one of those ads that claim to cleanup you computer come up and I shut the computer down as fast as I could since I couldn't get it to exit. Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Hi SportsMomof3 ...welcome to Geeks To Go... :)
it really does not matter how fast you shut down you computer after seeing the

one of those ads that claim to cleanup you computer

you are already infected...

Please go to Malware and Spyware Cleaning Guide...
HERE....

That will help you clean up 80 percent of all problems by yourself. If at the end of the process you are still having difficulty (and you may not be) follow the instructions start a new topic
here
post the OTListIt2 and Rooter logs ...
The "Topic Title" should contain the name of the infection that you are having a problem with...Use the "Topic Description" to include more details. This will help you get faster responses as some people are more familiar with certain infections....

if you are unable to download or run ANY of the tools...try downloading them on another computer and put them on a flash drive or cd and try installing them that way..
no joy...
start a new topic and let them know you can't run any of the tools..
