I have a Dell Dimension 2400 and my motherboard went out my cousin got me a new one and unfortunately its not the same as the one i had.

Heres what the sticker says on the MB -HP Pin 5187-4113- which is what led me to find what motherboard i have obviously. My computer is also telling me im missing the SM bus Controller and Ethernet Controller Drivers. Ive also noticed when i restart my computer its pretty slow now it stays on the Windows is shutting down... screen for a while before it finally reboots. When it does reboot a HP blue screen comes up then a black screen comes up with a flashing line then finally the windows screen shows up and everything is normal. For what its worth people in chat told me my cousin bought a piece of junk motherboard which is known for not letting you add stuff to it or something like that so i dont know. I cant stand not having sound ive been trying to fix this for two days straight i wish there was some easy place i could go and download whatever i need and have this thing back to normal. This machine is 6 years old and is nothing special ill give you the specs on it incase it will help. Ive tried downloading the Realtek AC 97 or whatever it is and nothing happens lol i guess because i dont have the drivers that go with it sigh idk. All i do know is theres many many many versions of the realtek ac and drivers and i have no clue what ones i need or what i need so if anyone can help me i would really really really be thankful.

Welcome to Geeks to go

My first question would be...

Do you have the drivers cd that came with the motherboard?

if this MOBO is not the same Model # did you reinstall windows?

Sometimes windows will not run that well on hardware it was not originally installed with. (ie. MOBO, CPU) you may need to reinstall windows...

Did you make sure all the wires are properly attached to the mobo for the sound to work?

Do you have the speaker wire plugged into the "green" output port?

is the volume muted? adjust all the slider settings to middle to make sure they aren't affecting your sound...

is the volume up on your speakers?

Are your speakers plugged in(powerwise)?

Let me know and we can continue to figure this out if this doesn't work...

Good luck

My cousin ordered and installed the motherboard for me it didnt come with a CD and he didnt reinstall windows. I have power to my speakers and i have the wire in the green output port. I have the volume on the speaker dial all the way up just for kicks i guess lol. when i go and click on volume control a box comes up and says there are no active mixer devices available. So i guess i have nothing i need to be able to hear a thing right now. It also says to install mixer device go to control panel and click printers, and other hardware, and then click add hardware.

I can't find your specific MOBO model number with Asus...

Can you open the side panel and double check the model number?

I can't find your # ending in LA

are you using the "broke" computer to post this or are you using another computer?

good luck

Welcome to Geeks to Go.

The hard drive from your computer has all the chipset (motherboard) drivers from the old board. Installing a new board has the system confused.
You need to update the chipset drivers. You should have received a CD with the motherboard that has the drivers on it. Since you do not have it, we have to do this the hard way.

Download Everest from my signature.

Try this link for your driver.

NForce2 Driver

Also your system memory is quite low (System Memory 448 MB PC3200 DDR SDRAM). We can work on that later.

I went to Add Hardware and it showed a Multimedia something or other and the RealTtek AC 97 Audio which it says it installed now.. hmm

OK Adam, Akmun here...... This is the sitch. Realtek is friggin kill BUT their drivers are very touchy. If you have other audio drivers you MUST disable all of them. On the other hand.... If you are not using the onboard sound and say you have a sound card you , In Turn MUST disable the Realtek hardware or nothing will work.It is also possible that your onboard (Realtek) sound is shot. They are notoriously fragile. One wrong amp and it's toast. Best solution.... Grab a old PCI SoundBlaster 5.1 and just go with it. If you have a kickin' surround sound system, you are not going to be able to tell the diff anyway.
