Just recently, IE 6 has caused the computer to show the BSOD. We have
followed all of the recommendations, uninstalling any new software; however,
no new hardware has been installed. It seems to occur after opening and then
closing several windows - my daughter has a file on the desktop with all of
her favorites. After finishing one site, she closes the browser down and then
goes to her favorites, and opens another browser. The BSOD oncly occurs
immediaely after attempting to access the internet, it does not occur

I have run the Malwarebytes and found no errors.

Tried the Dell Drive Utility - it found no problems.

There are no indications in Device Manager.

The event viewer indicates:

The error properties
Error code 100000c5, parameter1 00000004, parameter2 00000002, parameter3

The npkcrypt service failed to start due to the following error:

DCOM Event 10010
The server {0002DF01-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} did not register with DCOM

Application Hang Category (101) Event 1002

These are the only errors in the event viewer.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Open Windows Explorer.
Navigate to: C:\Windows\Minidump folder.
If you see any .dmp files, zip all of them, and attach zipped file to your next reply.
Vista users. You may need to copy .dmp files, paste them into some other folder, or desktop, and zip them there.

All your errors are DRIVER_CORRUPTED_EXPOOL, which indicates some corrupted driver.
Looking further into your dmp files, it's possibly caused by Avast.
Try to reinstall Avast.

Broni,

Thank you for responding and providing direction. I uninstalled and then reinstalled Avast. As of last night, there have not been any further occurrences of the blue screen. Your response indicates that it was "possibly" caused by Avast - if it wasn't Avast, is there a way to determine which drivers are corrupted? I believe I saw in a related Blue screen post some utility named "whocausedthis" or "whatcausedthis" - is that an option?

Also, what if I was to use Firefox rather than IE? Would the corruption cause problems within Firefox?

I believe you are referring to WhoCrashed

This program provides a list of the last programs or drivers to cause a crash on your system.
The Minidumps Broni requested earlier do the same thing but in a more detailed way.

Firefox is more secure then IE and in most cases faster.
You can import all your IE Favorites into Firefox's Bookmarks and thus not losing any of your saved websites.
You can also use both browsers if you wish.
You cannot uninstall IE as it is needed for Microsoft updates.

I was just informed that you can stop using IE completely and do your updates using Softwarepatch.

Hopefully this will help you further :)

Thank you very much. That's exactly what I needed to know - whether the whocrashed program or the minidump information was the best way to determine the problem that we're facing. I'll look into using Firefox and see if the error continues.

Great to hear.
Whocrashed you can read the information but the mini dumps you will not be able to without a debugger program.

In many cases, by running "Whocrashed", or even by looking through minidump files, it's not easy to provide 100% accurate answer. The only thing, which stood out was some Avast entry. That's why I suspected, it could be Avast. Apparently so :)
