Hello. My Dell Inspiron 5100 has always been good for me. Recently however it has been getting very very hot at the bottom and around the sides and it is starting to frequently shut off completly because it is so hot. I understand that it is normal for a laptop to shut off as an energency option but my questiuon is, what can I do to keep it from getting that hot? True It will only get this hot when I am running multiple applications. or a game etc. but I can only play a certain game for 15 where as I used to be able toplay it for hours without any problems. It this a faulty fan? Not enough memory? Virus? Spyware? A job for msconfig? Your guess is as good as mine :-(

Does anyone have a solution to this problem? Thanks so much.

Open it up and clean out the dust bunnies.

You may be able to find someone with a service manual if you go here:
