cannot connect internet on vista laptop

Hi, wondering if someone could help me smile.gif

I use cable internet, its just a modem what plugs in2 the back of my pc and it works, easy. Ive got a vista laptop and plugged it into that and i cant seem to get it working so i cant get on the internet on it. any ideas? not sure what it could be , when i plug it in the desktop pc it works straight away , ive tried turning it off before plugging it in the laptop but still doesnt work
any help much appreciated , thanx

hmm your laptop is new?

check your 'local area connection'.

control Panel> network and sharing center

then click 'manage network connections' on the left side of the screen.

is your 'local area connection' ok?
