Recently, when itunes is running and I am playing a game with Mozilla Firefox, the songs skip and then the whole system dies, leaving me with a one-second view of the "blue screen of death." Then the computer automatically restarts and takes about seven minutes to fully load- usually it only takes two or three.

I ran all the scans and I didn't identify a spyware program, but obviously something is wrong here. Here's the hijack this log: (tell me if I should use AdAware or SpyBot again to clarify anything)

Download and run CWShredder from:
http://www.intermute...r_download.html
Use the Fix button.

Check the items listed below in HijackThis, close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

First off, thanks for helping me. :tazz:

I did as you told me to, but my computer still crashed when I ran itunes and Microsoft Word. Here's the message from the blue screen:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new instillation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as cacheing or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options and then select Safe Mode.

Technical information:
*** STOP: 0x000000D1 (0x0000000C, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0xF6927424)

*** smwdm.sys- Address F6927424 base at F690F000, Datestamp 3f5f6eba

Beginning dump of physical memory
Physical memory dump complete
Contact your system administrator or technical support group for further assistance.

so what can I do now?

Can you check if you have the latest SoundMax drivers?

smwdm.sys is that driver and since it seems to be doing the crashing, replacing it with a newer version might do the trick.

I found a lot of driver updates, but none for my specific computer. I followed the HP website and downloaded one that said it was for my notebook, but once the download was complete, it said that it was designed for Compaq and Presario. I have an HP Pavillion.

I tried it anyway, but it didn't work. So I got another update, but got this message once it tried to install: "Error extracting support files: Access is denied."

I'm going to get more update downloads, but if you can help me out here i'd appreciate it.

Thanks for the link, but I found the driver I needed eventually through HP's site.

The first two didn't work but the third did, I installed it and now everything works wonderfully! Thanks so much for your help, I really appreciate it.
