Hi All

I hope this is the correct place for this. If not I apologise in advance.

Anyway I have an XP box that freezes just before the Welcome screen. I cant even get to Safe Mode.

Here's what Ive tried so far using UBCD4WIN boot CD:

Scanned for malware with MBAM and Superantispyware - clean
Scanned for viruses with Avira - Clean
Check Disk on the HDD
Defragged the HDD
Checked the drive with Seatools
Cloned the drive to another - still freezes
Tested the memory and tried different memory

I have then tried to do a repair install with an XP Home OEM CD but when I get to the Setup Screen (Press R for repair etc) the keyboard doesnt work.

Any ideas?

I currently thinking...

Have you tried the opposite keyboard interface from the one you are currently using?

Is your system OC'd?

Just some thoughts right now... I have to keep thinking, unfortunately it takes me some time, I can't just roll out the answer every time...

Good luck

hi there

it's a bog standard PS2 KB

However I connected an alternative DVD drive and managed to get an XP in place upgrade / repair install to work which in effect fixed it.

Still had to reapply all Windows Updates but atleast it now boots.

A very strange problem indeed.

Regards
