I found two Gigabytes boards One is " GA MA790X-UD4P and hte other is GA MA790XT-UD4P . The first is a AM2,to AM3 and only supports DDR2. It has been out for a while and proves to be a good board. The second supports only AM# and DDR3. Just to get a general feeling Would it be wiser to go with the AM3/DDR3 board to make sure that it will be good for a while down the road? Thanks Picky

AM3 is the newest socket made by AMD, and is the successor to AM2+, so it would be wise to go with AM3 so that you can upgrade later if you want. You will also be able to use faster memory with the AM3 board, which is always good :)
