I recently made the switch from Windows, and miss having "My Documents" on the desktop. Is there any way to make an alias directly to my user that I can place on the desktop?

You can make and alias by right clicking on any folder and choose "Make Alias." Then just drag and drop the alias onto the desktop.

Not quite. For the user folder you have to hold the Command and Option keys down while you drag it to your desktop.
