wmv e-mail attachments won't open

I use yahoo e-mail and Internet explorer browser when trying to open a wmv attachment I choose open instead of save. I never had problems with this untill my brother in law went in and cleaned out my cookies. he swears he did not erase or change anything, anyway now windows media player gives me a message saying it cannot find the file. now if i want to open a wmv attachment I have to save it to my desktop and then open it. It works that way but I would prefer to just click open and it would play. Any ideas as to what might have changed since my brother in
law Used it.
