BIOS, Display Memory and All Things Evil

OK, im gunna level with you all - I'm a noob. A big one, but i recently rebought Lord Of The Rings: Battle For Middle Earth II and after installing it it wont let me actually get into the game. I checked the EA EasyInfo thing on the disc and it claims the only thing i "fail" on is the display memory. The game require 64mb but i apparently have o.o. Now i use the word "apparently" because as previously mentioned i have had the game already and it worked just fine. The only thing i have done since selling and rebuying is formatted my laptop. I've upgraded all the sony upgrades from the website yet it still hits me with the same message (which basically says i need direct x 9.0 (which i do) or a new card).
Anyone got any cheaper suggestions?
