WMP prob, plz help.....

Hi,
I recently formatted my win XP and installed WMP 11(Windows Media Player). Now it says that WMP 11 wont work until i validate my windows online and my windows is NOT genuine, means ultimately my WMP wont work.
And when I tried to install WMP 10, it says that a more recent version of WMP is still running so it cant install WMP 10.
I event tried system restore to undo the installation of WMP 11 but XP didnt create any restore points.
