hi, i have a new inspiron 1545, with 4gb ram and 250 gb hdd.Vista home premium.
i have been getting low memory warnings. on looking at task manager i see that physical memory is 4057, cached 3200, free 0. CPU 9 to 20%.
80 processes running, the biggest seem to be 'host processes for windows services'about 200,000k in all.
there are a lot of entries on the 'services' tab, which i don't recognise.
i have run directx, no problems found.
i have only installed a few programmes so far, i.e. skype, and open office,
i have tried system restore, this took about 40 minutes and seemed to struggle. it freed up some memory but now it is nearly back full again.
any help appreciated.

Hi,

I could do with some logs please.

Download Autoruns

1: Extract the Autoruns Zip file contents to a folder.
2: Double-click the "Autoruns.exe".
3: Click on the "Everything" tab
4: Remove any entries that mention "File Not Found" by right-clicking the entry and select Delete.
5: Go to File then to Export As.
6: Save AutoRuns.txt file to know location.
7: Attach to your next reply.

Please can you download and install Everest from HERE
Once its installed (leave all of the options just keep pressing next) double click on the shortcut.
Then once its running:
1: In left pane expand Computer folder.
2: Click once on Summary
3: In upper menu, go Report
4: And then to Quick Report-Summary
5: Save it in text file, and paste it in your next post

Don't include anything under the line "DEBUG- PCI"

The attached picture can be used for reference

Thanks

What is virtual memory set to?

Download Process Explorer: http://technet.micro...s/bb896653.aspx
Unzip ProcessExplorer.zip, and double click on procexp.exe to run the program.
Click on View > Select Colunms.
In addition to already pre-selected options, make sure, the Command Line is selected, and press OK.
Go File>Save As, and save the report as Procexp.txt.
Attach the file to your next reply.

Right, my friend has been round and emptied my drinks cabinet, gggrrrr, he seems to think that with vista the ram always is high.
since he looked at it i am not getting the low memory warnings, so he may have fixed it.
so, if you don't mind, i will hold off giving you the above reports for a couple of days, to see how it works out.
Thanks again for your interest, G.

Ok il wait around.

However im not sure about him saying that the RAM is always high as 4GB is quite allot for Vista to run.
However there again it is probably like my HP, sold to have 4GB but its 32Bit so it only registers 2.5 But anyhow reply back whatever the result.

As computer was only a few days old i thought id send it back to dell, anyway i spoke to technical and they made me go back to factory settings, and that seems to have worked, ram now showing at 40-55% on the side bar dial.
Thanks for your time and interest.G.UK
