I got hijacked by Quicknavigate and repaired through GTG on may 9, but before I could respond to the expert's last post and say that the screen was still hijacked, the expert closed the dialog.

The display was a blue screen with a fake warning that some horrid trojan had infected my computer... blah, blah.... I opened my personal image files and rightclicked to set a background image, and nothing happened so I righclicked on the desktop to pull up the Display Properties window. That also was damaged, and only two of the trhee tabs appeared-- "Screensaver" and "Settings"

So I looked through other posts, found a similar problem on Windows XP, followed the fix for resetting the display using regfiles posted by Kat. It worked partially--the third tab reappeared, "Desktop" but "Background:" window and scrollbar and the button "Apply" were grayed out. Scrollbar was frozen, and clicking on background types didn't work. I still couldn't load a new background by rightclicking an image.

I tried reloading drivers for my 32MB NVIDIA GeForce2MX with TV out (Dell) from the disk, but that did not fix the problem.

What do I do now?

I went to device manager and hit + on display, but did not find "remove" button or tab as a option or action. Do you mean DISABLE or UNINSTALL?

Done, but no change in the desktop. The buttons and options on the display Properties Desktop tab still do not function.

Paste into MSPAINT, safe as a jpeg or gif, then save and attach the file

The bluescreen is what the hijacker installed.

the Desktop tab was gone until I ran the regfile and then it was replaced as you see now.

But, the Background menu is grayed out and does not work, the scroll bar does not work, the Browse tab does not work, and the Apply button does not work

The pulldown position button/menu does work, but only with placement of the obnoxious message.

Is that clear?

Much better!

I need to get to my main PC and I can fix that.....or, if you want

start > run
regedit
enter

navigate to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies

select that key, hit FILE > EXPORT, call it something like

botchedreg.reg

then attach it to a post.

I will edit it and post it back
