I am on a computer at work. This pc has never had volume. It will make a sound when testing but not to play music or anything.
There is no volume icon in toolbar. There is instead an icon for asus and it has a menu with 5 options: Sound Manager; Multi-Media; Windows Media Player; Sound Recorder and Volume Control.
When I click on the volume control option a window pops up telling me: There are no active mixer devices available.
What is this and how can I fix it?
The only name I see on this computer is antec. Can you help me. please?

Well, I have speakers set up to it. I'm not sure what you're asking. I apologize.Sound manager icon pulls up an interface for 'ASUS' ? I also see something called Realtech High Definition Audio. ??

Please Go to
1: STARTand the click on RUN
2: Type in devmgmt.msc
3: Click Enter
4. Look for any entries with Yellow Exclamation ! marks or Red X's


In your next reply please include those results

Nothing red or yellow.
Under system devices>system speaker: it says
On Intel® 82801GB/GR (ICH7 Family) LPC Interface Controller - 27B8

It also says there is no driver installed for this device.

Does that help any?

Install it and then let me know if everything now works

Unfortunately it did nothing. It actually caused my avast to alert me to a trojan!
So, I don't know what's up with this crazy thing!
I've got my avast virus scan running now, after that I'll do malwarebytes and see what I come up with.
Do you have any other suggestions?

Just to be completely sure you are clean and healthy:

I suggest you go to the Malware Removal and Spyware Removal Forum and run all the steps located in the START HERE. These self-help tools will help you clean up 70% of problems on your own. If you are still having problems after doing the steps, then please post the reguested logs in THAT forum. If you are unable to run any of the tools then start a new topic in the malware forum and put this in the subject line...I am unable to run any malware tools

If you are still having problems after being given a clean bill of health from the malware expert, then please return to THIS thread and we will pursue other options to help you solve your current problem(s).
