I have a Dell Dimension 2400 Desktop that completely crashed. I reformated the hard drive and have windows xp back on it but I can not access internet or sound and my icons are HUDGE. I'm pretty sure Im just missing drivers.. Device manager has ? beside Ethernet controller; Multimedia audio controller; PCI Simple Communications Controller and Video Controller (VGA Compatible). Am I right about missing drivers? and if so where can I find them. I have the recovery CD but I do NOT have a drivers and devices cd (the one that came with the computer) If its the drivers and I can find them online can I download to a Thumb drive and transfer that way? as I said I can not access the internet on the computer I am trying to restore. Sorry for the long post. I did read the sticky that talked about repairing xp but it didnt say what to do with this problem (unless I just missed it) Thanks!

Go HERE to get all the original drivers that were included in your system when brand new.
I suggest you download everything and burn it to a disk for future reference.
Please let me know if this is the drivers you need.

Please do the following and install it on the Dell.
Then run the program and attach the log to your next response. We can then try to find the individual drivers for you.

Download and install EVEREST Free Home Edition
Open it.
1: In left pane expand Computer folder.
2: Click once on Summary
3: In upper menu, go Report
4: And then to Quick Report-Summary
5: Save it in text file, and paste it in your next post.

DO NOT INCLUDE ANYTHING UNDER THE LINE THAT SAYS "DEBUG- PCI"

PCI Simple Controller is probably the modem.

Let's try getting drivers another way.
Go HERE for video driver.

MOBO Chipset
Driver

Network driver

Try these and then let me know if that gets everything but the PCI Simple Controller working.

OMG you are the BEST!!!! I can get online and my icons and font is normal! Thank you for your patience. The middle one just gives me a blank page but I did get the other two installed. The device manager still has the ? beside PCI (is that one really importatnt?)

If you are not using a Modem to connect to the internet then NO it is not important.
If you want to you can right click on it and Disable it.
Please let me know how everything is working

Yes, everything seems to be working well, a little slow on the net at times but its an old computer so I think that would be expected? Thank you again!

That is probably due to the ethernet card itself
Most likely it is a 10 base t instead of the newer 10\100's

You may be able to purchase a newer card to help with that. Since everything else seems to be working correctly I would like to say:

Congratulations. :) for a successful resolution for your issue. I am happy everything has been worked out for you. With that being said I am happy to say:
