Hi, for some reason Kaspersky will not run. Initially the database downloaded and then the error message followed.

I've tried to run several times and I even updated JAVA according to help instructions.

Run an ESET online scan here instead.

Note: You will need to use Internet explorer for this scan!

• First, accept the Terms of Use
• Click: Start
• When asked, allow the ActiveX control to install
• Click: Start
• Make sure the options:
  Remove found threats, and Scan unwanted applications are both checked!
• Click: Scan

When the scan finishes, use Notepad to open the ESET report.
It will be located in your Program Files folder, usually: C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt

Copy the text and paste it into your next reply.

Hi, I ran ESET. There was no option to select my computer, but it did start up immediately downloading the database after I accepted. There was no option to review scan but it did quarantine 6 files. I was able to view them but could not copy them, and was given the option of deleting. I deleted them because the file names suggest I need to monitor my computer closely when others use it. I ran ESET again, and no files were quarantined. Its late to be asking, but was this ok?

Well, it got rid of some stuff (probably from C:Qoobox Combofix's quarantine folder), but I would still like to see a log.

Please go HERE to run Panda's TotalScan

• Click Scan Now
• Agree to allow it to install the required files
• It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
• Then the scan will begin. This process can take more than an hour, depending on the amount of information stored on your computer.
• When the scan completes, click the Export to: icon on the right
• Save it to a convenient location. Post the contents of the TotalScan report in your next reply

Also, let me know how your machine is performing now, and whether you are experiencing any more problems.

Hi, I apologize if it appears I was impatient with this process - I realize it takes time and your's is more valuable than mine, particularly since you are helping me. Thank you, again. My computer performance is good, except when I open internet explorer. It seems to stall a little, and my mail is not available immediately. ATT is not supporting the Yahoo browser anymore, and so I had to uninstall Wednesday. I am not familiar with Internet Explorer and so it is a learning process trying to adjust these settings, and question boxes that pop up which I don't know how to respond.

Thos warnings can be normal depending on the page you are viewing.

Firefox and Opera are much more secure than IE, and I would recommend either. Firefox is my preference as it can have add ons installed to make it even safer.

Download and install it, then install these two add ons:

Hi, things are going great with Firefox. I really like it, starts up quickly, performs swiftly moving from sites and searches, and the toolbar isn't congested with a lot of junk. Much better performance than Internet Explorer & Yahoo browser.

I am however having new problem which I didn't think much about the first couple of times it happened -- my desktop starts up blue and white background, Restore Active Desktop, I followed the instructions in desktop properties for restoring. I don't what's causing it -- I haven't downloaded anything recently. Its becoming sort of a nuisance to keep doing this every time I startup.

• Locate xp_taskbar_desktop_fixall.vbs and double click to run it
• Click Yes at the Notice
• Click OK when it has finished

Can you tell about scripts? Firefox blocks scripts - unless you allow them to run. When should you allow them? I find that most websites run scripts, so how will I know when its ok or not?

Unless you "know" the website to be trustworthy, I find the best thing is to do is to temporarily allow the script to run.

Only allow one script at a time though, not all. It can be a pain doing this, but it helps to keep you protected. Also, if yoo can see what you want to see at a site without allowing scripts, then I wouldn't allow any.

I'll take your advice on this subject. I am sure its the best. Today I was at a website and I was about to run all scripts and a warning came up -- no authentication and to proceed at your own peril (I am paraphrasing). So I get your message!

Can I pose another problem I recently had with my Gateway? I've had it 4 years and use it primarily for work. It won't power up. No lights, no sound at all. I tried plugging in another cord. Still nothing. Should I purchase a power supply? From Gateway or maybe another supplier? I have never attempted to solve a hardware problem -- Is this a simple task?
