the problems keep on adding.........
i now find that i can't play my music files after that error comes up

just incase it helps....... would want to tell you, i had some problems when i had installed the realtek drivers for my sound cards
and i had to download 2 window updates...

after that the drivers had worked..
don't know if it was the latest version of the driver or the windows update that made them work...

thanks...

Do the things in these two articles: http://www.cakewalk....er/minidump.asp
And this one: http://www.tweakxp.c...ticle36976.aspx

Boot into Safe Mode, and tell me the BSOD error code that comes up, along with any parameters or drivers mentioned.

Go to Start -> Run -> compmgmt.msc
Go to the Event Viewer, and look for errors near the time of the svchost error.
Post the errors you see and their properties.

hi thanks...

the error while trying to start in safemode was :
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer . If this screen appears again follow these steps, check for viruses in your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drive or hard drive controllers . check our hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated.
run CHKDSK/F to check for hard drive corruption and then restart your computer.
tech info stop
0x0000007B (0xF7A61524,0xC0000034,0x00000000,0x00000000)

and i saw the application errors in the event log
there were 5 warnings before the error message and they all were :

Unable to read the disk performance information from the system. Disk performance counters must be enabled for at least one physical disk or logical volume in order for these counters to appear. Disk performance counters can be enabled by using the Hardware Device Manager property pages. Status code returned is data DWORD 0.

and the 2 error messages read:

An unhandled win32 exception occurred in svchost.exe [1536]. Just-In-Time debugging this exception failed with the following error: Server execution failed

Check the documentation index for 'Just-in-time debugging, errors' for more information.

when i tried to run CHKDSK/F
i got the error:
Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Chkdsk may run if this volume is dismounted first.
ALL OPEN HANDLES TO THIS VOLUME WOULD THEN BE INVALID
Would you like to force a dismount on this volume (y/n)

Make a boot disc... click on Recovery Console Instructions in my sig, and follow the directions to burn a disc. Boot from it, and follow the instructions here: http://icrontic.com/...pair_windows_xp

thanks...
what does this mean:

Now for the most important step of our process, the BOOTCFG /REBUILD command which searches for pre-existing installations of Windows XP and rebuilds sundry essential components of the Windows operating system, recompiles the BOOT.INI file and corrects a litany of common Windows errors. It is very important that you do one or both of the following two things: First, every Windows XP owner must use /FASTDETECT as an OS Load Option when the rebuild process is finalizing. Secondly, if you are the owner of a CPU featuring Intel’s XD or AMD’s NX buffer overflow protection, you must also use /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN as an OS Load Option. I will demonstrate both commands for the purpose of this guide, but do not set NOEXECUTE as a load option if you do not own one of these CPUs. For the “Enter Load Identifier” portion of this command, you should enter the name of the operating system you have installed. If, for example, you are using Windows XP Home, you could type “Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition” for the identifier. This gives the process some authenticity, if you’re keen on being a perfectionist.

I have a intel dual core processor !

All Intel Core 2 Duo processors have a XD bit.
Use /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN as a load option.
