I running Windows XP with IE v6.0

I have a parasite that keeps changing my home page to:
http://your-searcher.com/index.htm

It also inserts 4 adult sites into my favorites.

There is also a program called Win Min that is running when I shut down that I have to end in order to shut down.

I've run Ad-Ware, Spybot & Hijack This but nothing has gotten rid of it yet.

Could someone please help ?
Thank you.

Welcome to GTG struz <_<

You may wish to print out a copy of these instructions to follow while you complete this procedure.

Reboot in safe mode (by tapping F8 at startup and select safe mode from the menu).
Be sure you're able to view hidden files, and remove the following files in bold:

c:\program files\altnet\ <- Folder
C:\Program Files\MyWay\ <- Folder
C:\Program Files\WildTangent\ <- Folder
C:\WINDOWS\System32\P2P Networking\ <- Folder
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe

Next, please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

Fix the following ones that you don't use, they're taking up your RAM:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MMTray] C:\Program Files\MusicMatch\MusicMatch Jukebox\mm_tray.exe MusicMatch Tray Icon

Reboot your PC.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log, and let us know how your system's working. :D

Thanks Nantanhuth ! <_<

I will try it tonight (it's on my home pc),

Just a couple of questions:

The 1st 4 files that you want me to delete in safe mode, are they individual files or folders ? For example once I am in the directory c:\program files\altnet\
do I delete *.*

After I delete the files in safe mode do I reboot ?

Do I have to disconnect cable modem before I run HijackThis ?

The 3 at the end that are taking up RAM, this will just remove them from my tray, I will still be able to launch them right ?

My wife and daughter do use AOL so should I leave aoltray.exe or could they still launch AOL from the desktop icon ?

I will post a fresh log after I try it tonight.

Thanks again !

For the ones I said were a folder, you delete the folder itself. Stay in safe mode until I tell you to reboot. Yes, please disconnect your cable modem before you rn HJT. The last ones (esxcept for aoltray.exe) are just tray icons, you will still be able to run the programs. The AOL tray icon IS required since you use AOL.

Congratulations! Your system is CLEAN <_<

How do you prevent spyware from being installed again? We strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster (it's free for personal use).

Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Consumes no system resources.

Download, run, check for updates, download updates, select all, protect against checked. All done. Check for updates every couple of weeks. If you have any errors running the program like a missing file see the link at the bottom of the javacool page.

It's also very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks. Click Here to make sure that you have the latest patches for Windows.

It's okay to delete the Hijack This folder if everything is working okay. Also, make sure your Windows Firewall is turned on. To do this:

1. Go to "Start", then "Control Panel"
2. Click on "Network and Internet Connections", then "Network Connections" at the bottom
3. Right-click on your internet connection and choose "Properties"
4. Click the "Advanced" tab and make sure "Protect my computer..." is checked
5. Hit "OK" and you will now be protected from hackers

These next two steps are optional, but will provide the greatest protection.
1. Use ANY browser besides Internet Explorer, almost every exploit is crafted to take advantage of an IE weakness. We usually recommend Firefox.
2. Install Sun's Java. It's much more secure than Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine .

After doing all these, your system will be thoroughly protected from future threats. :D

Nanthanhuth,

Wow, thanks for the great tips. I will use them. <_<

After I deleted the Altnet and P2P folders, I noticed Kazaa wasn't working any
more. Kazaa installs both of them when you download Kazaa.
Is there a way to get rid of them and still have Kazaa work ?
If not, is Kazaa a source for parasite, hijackers... ?

No.

Not only does Kazaa install spyware on your system, and refuse to work when you uninstall it, but many of the programs also have hidden nasties. We don't recommend anyone run Kazaa. There are spyware free alternatives.

I highly suggest Shareza. Spyware-free and searches multiple networks (i.e. Kazaa, BearShare, Limewire, eDonkey, etc.). The only other spyware-free one I've heard about is Warez.
