Under no circumstances would I play an MMORPG such as WoW. These games REQUIRE you to play excessive hours to get anywhere and you therefore simply can't catch up/compete without an insane amount of time.

This is coming from someone who played them (excessively) previously to the point of 10 hour days all summer long and then years later for just a few hours here and there.

Stick to games that when you turn off, are off. Not one you're falling behind in because you aren't there. As a once hardcore gamer, I play games occasionally like CoD4, Diablo2, WarcraftIII. Something you can play for a half hour and have fun (or more occasionally). These are fun to kill some time with, but when you play games like WoW, it takes a significant part of your life that you could generally devote to something well... more rewarding.

That's not to take a shot at hardcore gamers, but when you are playing a minimum 15 hours a week just to remotely keep up in the MMORPG gaming world where you are already 10,000 hours behind.. it's no longer about having some fun gaming.

yea i used to do the same thing.. during summer of my 10th grade year in high school i did nothing but mmo's all day long. I was playing on my brother's computer cuz mine was a mac.. would go and get on at 6:00am and play til 1:00pm without getting up... then he would play for a few hours, til like 4:00pm or so.. then i would get back on til about 10:00pm... all for nothing.. and i was still no where near the top players.. matter of fact i was prolly still in bottom 50% of the population.

now i go back to mmo's from time to time on slow days or while i am at work on weekend nights. Weekends I am paid to run computer backups, which means i start the backups and sit there to make sure nothing goes wrong. And nothing ever does. After 2 years of it i have it down to a science. the backups are curently taking 6 hours at a time so theres plenty of time to try to get that next level or whatever.... xD

I guess if you're literally just killing time at work, but yea even when I tried WoW for a while, in a non hardcore fashion, got to 63 and found myself doing things like "map out the whole world" achievements, and realized I was running around aimlessly just to get something that says "you've achieved this" when I could be achieving something in real life.
