Please Go to
1: STARTand the click on RUN
2: Type in devmgmt.msc

4. Look for any entries with Yellow Exclamation ! marks or Red X's

Btw I forgot to tel you:
Hello roadran.... Welcome to GeeksToGo, :) :) :)

GO to the HP Download Center and get the two HPWWAN drivers.
That should take care of the Packet Schedular Miniport 5 issue.

As far as the headphones have you checked the volume control for the plug?
It should be next to the plugin on the laptop.

Also do the following:

Check speaker connection to back of system
Check volume control in windows by doing the following:
Go to Start and The Run
Type in sndvol32.exe and press Enter
Make sure Master Volume is not muted and turned up
Check Cd Player volume is not muted and turned up
Check for any Headphone volume control and make sure it's not muted or turned down

What is ok?
None of the volume controls are muted
Did you try turning up the volume control on the laptop next to the headphone jack?
Did this help at all?

There seems to be a second headphone plugin somewhere on the laptop.
Have you tried that one?

Hmm strange, and you know the headphones work correctly right?

Do you get any sounds from the system when it boots up or shuts down?

It sounds like then the headphone jacks are not working.
Normally the volume control next to the headphone is what people miss and it just seems odd there is no little turn wheel there to increase the volume.

Go HERE and read the information.
I doubt this is the problem since you are getting systems sounds.
Have you tried to play a mp3 or a dvd to see if you get sound from the laptop itself?
If so then the above will not help.
