Help... Can't access Firefox and IE after removing Advanced Virus

I managed to removed Advanced virus remover and windows antivirus pro from my computer. However, since then, I was not able to browse the internet through Firefox Mozilla or Internet Explorer. Furthermore, anything that requires internet connection (like Windows Messanger, Weatherbug, Yahoo Messanger) also do not work. I tried different suggestions I can find without any success. Trying to run safe mode did not work either. It just shut me down.
Any other thoughts? I have too long of a list on what I have tried. The internet connection is definitely there since my roommate's computer is working just fine.
