Okay. so recently my computer has been having this problem where when it goes into sleep mode or when it is turned on the desktop icons or anything that was open is gone. and all it shows is my desktop background. so i have to unplug the white plug in for my moniter from my computer and plug it back in to work. Also now it has been happening only i have to restart my computer to get it to work. if anyone has any ideas or suggestions pls let me kno

ru using a graphics card? also ow long is system idle before this happens?

yes i have a nvidia Geforce 8300 Gs. Uhm my sleep mode comes up after i think 20-30 minutes after not using computer.

that is the card that came with it... idk wat you mean by on board...
haven't tried in safe mode yet

most mobos have an on board graphics port vga i this a custom bilt?

You can try going to Control Panel - Power Options or similar and there should be some settings to tell what the computer to do after it has been sitting idle for a specific amount of time.
Regarding the desktop icon issue, have you tried right-clicking on the desktop - Arrange Icons - Then check "Show Desktop Icons"
