Long story short:
Work computer slowed down
When left clicked Google & Yahoo search links are redirected to ad sites & pop ups with "warning your PC is infected download our scanner now!"
Yahoo Messenger password no longer being accepted as valid
Reported my account may have been compromised,
Found out my account no longer existed, lost all contacts.

Ran AVG scan, many threats being found
4 hrs into first full system scan - blue screen of death
error purported to be a driver failure
Blue screen happened at 5pm so I left computer shut down & went home

Tried to solve problem again next day:
Computer booted, yay!
Started AVG full system scan
Captured redirect address on hijacked links
Found out windowsclick.com is the culprit
Googled windowsclick.com
(right click to open in new tab still goes to correct website)
Read forums giving advice on how to fix problem
Attempted to download & install:
Malwarebytes < downloaded & installed but won't launch
Spybot SD < downloaded & installed but won't launch
SuperAntiSpyware < downloaded & won't install
HiJackThis < able to run a scan!!!

I didn't fix anything cause I didn't know what to keep & what to lose:

Ran yet another AVG scan, found 12 threats only able to fix 6.
The same threats keep coming back after being vaulted:

Result/Infection:
Virus found Win32/Cryptor

<unable to vault

File:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe (insert random#here)

The first scan mentioned that a firefox.exe was infected so I uninstalled Firefox, and just to be safe I also uninstalled Opera. Posting this from IE.

hi

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved and renamed following this process directly to your desktop**
  • If you are using Firefox, make sure that your download settings are as follows:
    • Tools->Options->Main tab
    • Set to "Always ask me where to Save the files".
  • During the download, rename Combofix to Combo-Fix as follows:

    Posted Image

    Posted Image

  • It is important you rename Combofix during the download, but not after.
  • Please do not rename Combofix to other names, but only to the one indicated.
  • Close any open browsers.
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
    • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.

      -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Close any open browsers.
    • WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
    • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
    • If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

  • Double click on combo-Fix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the "C:\Combo-Fix.txt" for further review.
**Note: Do not mouseclick combo-fix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

My boss downloaded & ran McAfee, said it got all the bugs.
He suggested I try my old Yahoo account log in again.
After the first attempt to log in to my old account I got another blue screen of death.

the stop error appeared as such:

STOP: 0x0000008E (0x0000005, 0xB12EF05B, 0xB04D130, 0x00000000)

I rebooted & followed your instructions on to install & run ComboFix

ComboFix gave a pop up that said it needed to reboot the system before a scan could be run and had me write down a couple of files that it thought were suspect:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\UACirfurjhxdq.sys
C:\WINDOWS\system32\UACpealpocvgd.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\UACkranmpltok.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\UACvixblunsmb.dat

hi

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

3. Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\f9t.dat

Folder::

Registry::

Driver::

Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as ComboFix.exe

Posted Image

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe

When finished, it shall produce a log for you at C:\ComboFix.txt which I will require in your next reply.

First I wanted to say THANK YOU for your help in solving this issue.
I definitely need the assistance.

I think it's worth mentioning that McAfee ran a scan over night & found 2 more trojans C:\WINDOWS\system32\UACkranmpltok.dll was one of them, along with a couple other "threats". It said it had fixed the trojan files, but considering the nature of these beasts I highly doubt that.

But I'm hopeful that, with your assistance, we're getting closer to a clean machine!

Here are the steps I took:

  • Copied code box & saved as CFScript.txt to desktop
  • Turned off McAfee & exited all other active programs
  • Dragged & dropped CFScript.txt onto CF icon on desktop
  • CF said there was an updated version available, clicked Yes to install updated version
  • CF restarted & ran scan,
  • During scan my desktop went blank, all I could see was CF window
  • Scan completed
  • New CF log created
  • Rebooted computer
  • Desktop back to normal
  • Came here & posted new CF log, see below.

hi

Download TFC to your desktop
  • Open the file and close any other windows.
  • It will close all programs itself when run, make sure to let it run uninterrupted.
  • Click the Start button to begin the process. The program should not take long to finish its job
  • Once its finished it should reboot your machine, if not, do this yourself to ensure a complete clean

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

Go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

  • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  • When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  • Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
    • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
      Mail databases
  • Click on My Computer under Scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
  • Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button. Then post it here.

Kasperky is 40% complete at 2hrs 17mins.
If it's not finished by 5pm CST, I'll let it run over night & I'll try to make a trip by the office tomorrow to post the log. If anything I will post it on Monday morning at the very latest.

Thanks again for your assistance on squashing these bugs!

Your logs are clean

Follow these steps to uninstall Combofix and tools used in the removal of malware
  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.
    Posted Image

  • Download OTC to your desktop and run it
  • Click Yes to beginning the Cleanup process and remove these components, including this application.
  • You will be asked to reboot the machine to finish the Cleanup process. Choose Yes.

Below I have included a number of recommendations for how to protect your computer against malware infections.
  • Keep Windows updated by regularly checking their website at :
    http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer.

  • SpywareBlaster protects against bad ActiveX, it immunizes your PC against them.

  • SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts. Make sure you are only running one real-time anti-spyware protection program ( eg : TeaTimer, Windows Defender ) or there will be a conflict.

  • Make Internet Explorer more secure
    • Click Start > Run
    • Type Inetcpl.cpl & click OK
    • Click on the Security tab
    • Click Reset all zones to default level
    • Make sure the Internet Zone is selected & Click Custom level
    • In the ActiveX section, set the first two options ("Download signed and unsigned ActiveX controls) to "Prompt", and ("Initialize and Script ActiveX controls not marked as safe") to "Disable".
    • Next Click OK, then Apply button and then OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
  • TFC - Cleans temporary files from IE and Windows, empties the recycle bin and more. Great tool to help speed up your computer and knock out those nasties that like to reside in the temp folders.

  • MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well known ad sites and other bad sites. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer, meaning it will be difficult to infect yourself in the future.

  • Please consider using an alternate browser. Mozilla's Firefox browser is fantastic; it is much more
secure than Internet Explorer, immune to almost all known browser hijackers, and also has the best built-in pop up
blocker (as an added benefit!) that I have ever seen. If you are interested, Firefox may be downloaded from
    Here

If you choose to use Firefox, I highly recommend these add-ons to keep your PC even more secure.
    • NoScript - for blocking ads and other potential website attacks
    • McAfee SiteAdvisor - this tells you whether the sites you are about to visit are safe or not. A must if you do a lot of Googling

  • Keep a backup of your important files - Now, more than ever, it's especially important to protect your digital files and memories. This article is full of good information on alternatives for home backup solutions.

  • ERUNT (Emergency Recovery Utility NT) allows you to keep a complete backup of your registry and restore it when needed. The standard registry backup options that come with Windows back up most of the registry but not all of it. ERUNT however creates a complete backup set, including the Security hive and user related sections. ERUNT is easy to use and since it creates a full backup, there are no options or choices other than to select the location of the backup files. The backup set includes a small executable that will launch the registry restore if needed.

  • FileHippo Update Checker is an extremely helpful program that will tell you which of your programs need to be updated. Its important to keep programs up to date so that malware doesn't exploit any old security flaws.

Thank you again for your help.

A few points I'd like to address & questions I have.

I was already using Firefox on a regular basis and I think that is where I ended up picking up the infection. At the outset McAfee detected that Firefox had an infection so I ended up removing it all together & was waiting to reinstall until I got a clean machine.

At the time of posting of my last HJT log I was in the process of running another McAfee Full system Scan. I let it run over night & came in this morning to find that it had quarantined 2 more Trojans that were located in the registry. I am running another full system scan after removing ComboFix & running OTC.

The previous user of this computer had installed & run Kazaa. I have long since uninstalled it but it would seem that there is still adware linked to that program lurking about since McAfee is detecting these as well. I had it remove those programs as well. What can I do to completely remove these quarantined files from my computer so they do not resurrect themselves?

There is a program in my Add/Remove Programs list "Need2Find Bar" that will not be removed when I click to change/remove I get the error:
Error Loading C:\PROGR~1\NEED2F~1\bar\2.bin\Nd2fnBar.dll
The specified Module could not be found.

Any suggestions on getting rid of that?

I am installing SpywareBlaster & SpywareGaurd as suggested. I just wanted to make sure these will not interfere with McAfee & vice versa.

I am hesitant to create a registry back up using ERUNT since McAfee detected Trojans in the registry. What do you suggest I do if the newest scan picks up those registry Trojans again?
