Hi Gurus,.

I have a windows XP o/s. I am trying to defrag my Local hard C: but I get error such as
"Disk Defragmenter has detected that Chkdsk is scheduled to run on the volume of Local c:. Please run chkdsk /f. I ran chkdsk /f and it says cannot locked current drive, current drive is NTFS. Do you want to schedule a chkdsek on next system restarts. I selected No.
I also checked my schedule task. there is nothing about scheduling chkdsk. Please help me. Am I attacked by a malware? I have a Hijackthis log as well. I am not sure what is wrong. Is it the O/s or is it the malware.

Hello AmazingTrans.... Welcome to GeeksToGo, :) :) :)

I'm sorry to hear about your issue. We will try to help you resolve this as soon as possible.
Please understand we are all volunteers and we are not here all the time. Sometimes it may be a extended amount of time to get back to you. If it has been more then 3 days please shoot me a PM and I will try to get to quickly then.

First issue is top edit your post and take out the HJT log. These logs are only used in the Malware Forum

Second you need to run chkdsk /r on the drive by doing the following...

Go to
Start and then to Run
Type in Chkdsk /r Note the space between k and /
Click Enter ...It will probably ask if you want to do this on the next reboot...click Y

If the window doesn't shutdown on its own then reboot the system manually. On reboot the system will start the chkdsk operation
This one will take longer then chkdsk /f

Note... there are 5 stages...
It may appear to hang at a certain percent for a hour or more or even back up and go over the same area...this is normal...
DO NOT SHUT YOUR COMPUTER DOWN WHILE CHKDSK IS RUNNING OR YOU CAN HAVE SEVERE PROBLEMS
This can take several hours to complete.
When completed it will boot the system back into windows.

Let me know if this fixes the problem

Third is if you suspect a infection of any kind:

I suggest you go to the Malware Removal and Spyware Removal Forum and run all the steps located in the START HERE. These self-help tools will help you clean up 70% of problems on your own. If you are still having problems after doing the steps, then please post the reguested logs in THAT forum. If you are unable to run any of the tools then start a new topic in the malware forum and put this in the subject line...I am unable to run any malware tools

If you are still having problems after being given a clean bill of health from the malware expert, then please return to THIS thread and we will pursue other options to help you solve your current problem(s).

Hi there,
Thank you for your quick response. It seems that it did not fix the problem still though.
Any more suggestions?

Did chkdsk find and repair any problems?
If so please rerun it till it doesn't find any more problems.

Download Auslogics Defrag from the link in my signature below. See if Auslogics Defrag works and if so then we can try to repair windows.
