my usb ports stopped working

Hi, i have a hp laptop, and my ubs ports have stopped working i have 3 ports and all used to work fine then suddenly 2 stopped working and one you had to jiggle what ever was plugged in to work now that 1 will not work what ever i plug in says not recognized and will not respond, i was told that i may have to re install usb 2.0 driver, but all of the posts want you to pay for the drivers, and i dont want to pay for it if i am not sure that thats whats wrong or if i dont have to.
can anyone help???
