[b]HI i Have just bought the 'Sims 3' game. though i have come across a problem, when i load the game everything works perfectly, but when i have chosen which town to live in , the game then starts to load a town but after about 3 minutes the whole game shuts down and returns to my desktop. no messages or warnings appear when this happens. i have been told it could be my graphics chip set but if so apparently it will cost alot of money to get a new one in my laptop! PLEASE HELP thank you.[/b] :)

Hi,

Welcome to GeeksToGo :)

Please can you download and install Everest from HERE
Once its installed (leave all of the options just keep pressing next) double click on the shortcut.
Then once its running:
1: In left pane expand Computer folder.
2: Click once on Summary
3: In upper menu, go Report
4: And then to Quick Report-Summary
5: Save it in text file, and paste it in your next post

Don't include anything under the line "DEBUG- PCI"

If your game is crashing to desktop, the game will attempt to place crash dump files in your \My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\ directory. There will be two files, a .mdmp and .txt file that are time stamped at the point the game crashed
Please attach the .txt file for reference.

OK :)

You are really right on the edge of the system requirements for the game.
The area that worying me is this:

You have:
CPU Type Unknown, 1833 MHz (1.8GHz) (11.5 x 159)

You need:
2.4 GHz P4 processor or equivalent.
So its never going to be fantastic. However we will try our best.

Please click This Link to go to system requirements lab. Select Sims 3 from the drop down box and then click Can you run it?.

If will give you a report. Please tell me any failures it finds. Possibly either do a print screen of the page and attach it or note down all of the data in a text document and attach it.

Next we will update your graphics drive to make sure. I know what card you have nut not the full name. Please do the following:

  • Click on the Start Button
  • Click on Control Panel
  • Click on Personalization.
  • Find Display Settings click that.
  • Once the Display Settings have opened select the Advanced Settings tab or button.
  • Once in the Advanced Settings you need to click on Adapter

Tell me what it says under Adapter Type

I have attached a word document including both the adapter type and the 'can you run it?' results.
you have to save the file as it will not load in browser.

Hi,

I think i pulled the wrong system requirements from the web because your system is fine running the game..hmm weird :)

Anyhow,

Ok Click Here and then click on download file.
Run the file to update your graphics card driver. There are a few issues with old system drivers with Sims 3 so I'm hoping this will solve it.

Then Click Here and download the patches for Sims 3. Install one after the other in the correct order.

Post back if you have any problems with it :)

hey umm.. thank you for the advice but this may seem like a silly question but when i click on the sims 3 patches to download them i cant see a download button, am i doing something wrong?

when i got to the graohics update it said i ned a registration code! but i hav just tried to download the first patch and i got a message saying...'the setup has detected that the installed game region for this update is incorrect.

this update requires a different game region in order to be installed.'

Hi,

Have you tried installing the second patch? It could be the first is all ready installed or not required.

Also I apologise for the graphics driver. The link was incorrect. Click Here to download the driver. You need to enter the letters into the code box and then click Download now.

Download it to your desktop then right click and choose Extract All
Then run it.
I'm not sure how to run it as I'm having difficulty with the web at the moment and cannot download it but you will be looking for something like Setup.exe

when downloading the second patch
a message box comes up and i have attached a snapshot of it
i have downloaded the graphics driver and it still dosnt work

Hmm ok then,

Have you tried a complete uninstall? 

Your system has all of the patches installed which is why that error is coming up. I would backup any saved games you may have and then uninstall the game. 

Make sure you remove the patches form Add/remove programs before reinstalling and make sure there isn't anything left over.

hiya again

i uninstalled then reinstaled the program i then went to run it again and it came up with a message saying warning video cad not recognised. but i then proceded this time the bar that usualy only goes up to 1/8th full quickly went to a full bar but then went straight back to the desktop and closed the programme down! i realy don't have a clue now! :) :)
