Hello and welcome to GeeksToGo. My name is Kat, and I will be helping you. I am sorry you were overlooked. However, the most likely reason for this is all of the bumping. It states right in our "Please read this BEFORE posting a topic" thread at the top of the forum that "We look for threads with NO REPLIES, so please do not bump your topic".

I am currenlty working on some other logs already in progress. I will take a look at yours tomorrow, and post instructions for you then. I have subscribed to this topic, so I will not forget you.

We check logs as many pages back as we need to to find 0 reply ones. That's what caused yours to get overlooked. When we would see so many 'replies' on this, we would have automatically assumed you were receiving help.

I will be back tomorrow to review your log.

I was able to clean all five of the items through HiJackThis, but not the C:\\icon.exe. Fortunately, Ewido cleaned that for me. Here are the HJT and Ewido scan logs:

Open hijackthis, click config (right bottom) > misc tools > delete a file on reboot.
Copy and paste C:\WINDOWS\svcmgr32.exe in that field and choose open.
Hijackthis will tell you that this file will get deleted on next reboot and will ask you if you want to reboot now -- click yes/ok.

Follow the same procedure above to delete this file, as well:

C:\WINDOWS\winmgc.exe

After you reboot:

Go to Start>Run and type "services.msc" (without the quotes) and hit "ok". Locate the following and right click on it, then choose "stop".

Windows Management Construct (or winmgmc)

Now open HJT and scan for a new log. Place a check next to the following, and click Fix with NO other programs or browswers open:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\svcmgr32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows Service Manager] C:\WINDOWS\svcmgr32.exe
O23 - Service: Windows Management Construct (winmgmc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\winmgc.exe (file missing)

After you have done this, go back to the main page of HJT and click on the button "Open the MISC Tools section". From there, click on "Delete an NT service". In the box that opens up, paste this line, and then click "OK" and reboot your machine.

winmgmc

Then let your machine reboot, and post me a fresh HJT log here in a reply.

I tried to do everything you told me to. I came across a few problems. When I right-clicked Windows Management Construct, it only let me click start, not stop, as if it was not running. And after I had deleted O23 - Service: Windows Management Construct (winmgmc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\winmgc.exe (file missing)
within my HJT, it came back after rescanning. So I was also not able to delete it through NT service, because it said the program was still running. Here is a new log:

Did you set it to START that service? If you did, please follow the directions above and stop it again!

Open HJT and click the "Open misc tools" section. Then click "Delete an NT service". In the text box paste or type winmgmc and click OK. Then let the machine reboot!

Then scan for a new HJT log and post it here in a reply! :tazz:

I was not able to start it because it said "Could not start Windows Management Construct on Local computer. Error 2: The system could not find the file specified." And when I try to delete winmgmc through HJT, it says " The service 'winmgmc' is enabled and/or running. Disable it first using HJT itself (from the scan results) or the services.msc window".

*Open HijackThis.
*Click on "None of the above, just start the program"
*Click Config (bottom right)
*Click Misc Tools
*make sure that both boxes beside "Generate StartupList Log" are checked:

List all minor sections(Full)

and

List Empty Sections(Complete)

Click "Generate StartupList Log".
Click "Yes" at the prompt

It will produce a NotePad Page. I need you to copy the entire contents of that page and paste it here.

I am sorry. I may not be able to get back to you until tomorrow. I spent most of today with my mom at the hospital, where she was admitted. My brain is fried, and this will require me to be 100% to finish you up. I promise to get back with you tomorrow early afternoon!

As this is going to require a bit to get you cleaned up, I have asked another STaff Member to take over your thread. He is very good, and you'll be in great hands! :tazz:
