Hello,

I am new to this site, was sent here by one of my wife's work colleagues.

My wife has an Asus Eee PC 1000HA that was hit with a virus over the weekend that started when she visited a "free" wallpaper site. FWIW, I had installed AVG 8.5 (free) and used the XP firewall (Defender?) when I activated the system last december. The virus kept popping up web sites for free porn or Viagra then it would try to sell "System Pro Anti-virus". I tried like heck to get ahead and d/l a malware remover tool, but the virus kept infecting more and more files until it would not reboot to a full Windows XP screen.

Please note that I use Mac and I'm a bit rusty dealing with this mess.

In any event, my wife's system does not include a CD/DVD drive. I do have another XP machine I can use to d/l necessary files.

1. Can I use a 16 GB thumb drive to upload any necessary files to disinfect the netbook?

2. Will I need to protect the thumbdrive with some sort of a/v software before inserting it into the Asus?

3. Since I can't get an XP screen, will I be able to start in safe mode?

4. I believe I have the system disc (somewhere). Is it possible to copy those files to the thumbdrive? I'm apologize, but I will need assistance with all of these actions.

Surely, there are other questions I'm not experienced enough to ask. Feel free to learn me when warranted.

Thanks for any and all assistance with this project.
