Hiya,

I've read this problem on loads of other message boards and tried all the solutions that worked for others. None have worked for me.

While downloading a video file, Firefox crashed and I was left with a 0kb file. It won't delete, modify or move in any way, and the system seems totally incapable of recognising it. Somehow this is draining my resources, even opening the folder that holds the problem file can lead to explorer freezing or failing to load any other folders. Consequently, I'm having to frequently restart explorer just to keep trying.

I've tried deleting it in the command prompt using *.*, and 'del video.mpg', deleting in safe mode, using the shredders on both Spybot & McAfee and various other permanent delete programs for around the place... Nothing is happening. Every program freezes every time. Overwriting doesn't work, I have admin rights so that's not an issue, and I'm running a complete virus scan right now, but I get the feeling that's not the cause.

Stupidly, I don't have any restore points saved so that's not an option. But I'm open to anything else that is.

I will bow at the feet of anyone who can rescue me from my computorial despair. Please help!

Ctrl+Alt+Delete

Open task manager.
Select Firefox if its in there and close it.
Make sure nothing is running.

If you want close explorer also,.
And then run desktop and delete it.

Something most likely is connected to it in someway thats keeping you from deleting it.
Find out what it is close it and remove it.

Thank you WhiteRose!

I shutdown explorer and deleted the offender through the command prompt. It disappeared immediately.

I was pulling my hair out but you've made me very happy, thank you so much :)
