Can't find profile?

I recently restarted my computer and it got to the point where it required a password to log in to my profile. I attempted to put my password and log in. An error message then came up saying something like it couldn't find my profile. It then allowed me to log in, but i had lost all my files, documents, settings etc. I thought it was a freak crash and there was no hope. HOWEVER, I randomly did a search of my computer for a file and found it! If I go to my documents or my pictures there are still no files though. I can only view files if I manually search for them. What is going on here???
