Hello,

I started trying to fix this in the networking area at first. I was asked to perform some task and post here if the problem was not resolved, so here I am. Hello, and thanks in adance. :)

The original thread is here:
http://www.geekstogo...on-t251816.html

I will not post back there until told to do so.

Here is what happened as best as I know how to explain it.

My PC crashed a few days ago, for reasons unknown. Over the period of about 30 seconds, my firewall was turned off, AVG was turned off, Windows Defender was turned off and Sybot was removed completely from my system. I have no idea why.

The computer went into continuous restart mode.

I worked on it for almost a whole day to no avail. I have recent backups, so I reformatted the hard drive.

I am on that PC right now. I have a backup PC as well. But the primary is back and running. I still have my business software to load yet. But for the most part the rebuild is complete. Prior to the crash I had PGP Encryption / Recovery 9.9.1 on the system. I have not yet loaded all of my business software on the system, not have I loaded PGP.

Before the crash, everything worked fine. Now that I am trying to set the system back up. I am having problems with the HP L7680. I have shared folders on the PC that are 'read and write' to the network. I need to scan into these folders directly using the Direct Digital Filing. The folders are set up and shared. They show up on the HP L7680 in the network.

When I try to scan into the folders, I get "Cannot connect to\\laptop\(folder-name). Make sure the remote computer is turned on"

I have checked everything I cold find to check. The PC is connected to the HP L7680 hard wired and the lights are on 'both ends'. The PC is able to get on the internet. The printer works, the fax is intermittant, the copier works, the scanner works (short of into Direct Digital Filing)

I have gone to Microsoft and updated all on my software. I did not install IE 8. Other than that everything else is current.

I have gone to HP and updated all the drivers for the system. I do not know if there is a driver for the ethernet port or not. But I downloaded everything per their scan of my system.

Everything else seems to be working fine right now, except the local connection to the printer, and the direct digital dialing. Let me explain the set up as I have it.

DSL from local IP provider
Cable from wall to DSL modem: ARRIS model CM45OA
From modem to wirless G router: Belkin model F5D7231-4
From the modem hard wired into a desk top that workes great (no issues)
From the modem wireless to this Laptop as well as a Sony Laptop (The Sony also works with no issues)

-
This laptop has its own LAN. It is wireless for the internet (works great). It is USB connected from the HP laptop (this one- that is not working right) to the HP L7680 All-IN-ONE. There is an Ethernet cable from the HP L7680 back to the HP Pavilion ZV6000 (this PC)to complete the LAN. I don't think the printer has a wirless connecivity ability.

The printer, scanner, copier works great, the fax is so-so. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. The HP l7680 is brand new @two weeks old. The laptop is ??? 4-5 years.

Both the modem and the router have been reset several times. Not resolving the issue.

I can get into the HP L7680 by its IP number retrieved from the HP L7680. I can make adjustments to the shared folders, and hose changes do show up on the Network at the printer digital screen. I just can't scan intoto laptop via direct digital dialing. I always get the message:
cannot connect to \\laptop\filename Make sure remote computer is turned on.

My System:
HP Pavilion ZV6000 (zv6130 US)
HP L7680 all in one
Windows XP Pro OS
Arris Modem
Belkin Wireless G
All in one is hard wired to PC
PC is wireless to router
Dell desktop is also one same network (wired)

This has been frustrating for me, but I haven't yet given up.

Any help is appreciated.

BTW:

Here is the information on the connection:

Property . Value
Physical address . 00-0F-BO-FA-21-BF
IP Address . 169.254.28.254
Subnet mask . 255.255.0.0
Deafult Gateway
DNS Server
WINS Server

Doesn't the "169" in the IP address tell me it is NOT connected?

This is not the IP address of the Laptop -or- the L7680 printer.

Thanks

Steve

OK, I disabled all the connections and then enabled all the connections. I reset the router and modem again and I now have a LAN connection.

Address type . Manually configured
IP address . 192.168.*.* (I have a real address)
subnet add . 255.255.255.0
Default gateway

So, I have figured that out.

However, Direct digital filing still doesn't work. It still gives me the same error message.

I guess I screwed up adding info to the original thread. It now looks like someone is helping me with this. ........

I did NOT do it to bump the thread.

I am going back to the original thread.

I have no idea what I did other than what is posted above.
