Well I am beginning to believe the HD is dead.
Bios does not see it
Puppy doesn't see it
Do you have access to another system where you could possibly put the drive in as a slave or as a second ide drive? This way you could determine of the drive is even usable at this point.

Again I suggest taking the drive out and connection it to a known working system
You can do this two ways.
Slaving the drive to existing system or purchasing a external enclosure.
This will at least give you a chance in backing up the data you want to save.

Looks like you have puppy version 2.18

pup2-218.sfs

. I am not familiar with that one.

I have just fired up my test comp with puppy 2.16 to look at the terminology of what you should see.

In version 2.16.1 seamonkey fulldrivers
If you click on the icon that looks like a flash drive it will open up "Pmount puppy drive monitor"
This will open up another window.
Within that window will be the drives that are connected to the computer that puppy recognizes.
On the computer that I am using puppy on, the window shows:
A floppy drive as "/dev/fd0"
A cd drive as "/dev/hdb" It also lists the model as a compaq CRD-84018
A disk as "/dev/hda" It also lists the model as a 20gb ST320014a. Also shown is "/dev/hda1 4.0g ntfs"
The /dev/hda1 4.0g ntfs is the only partition I have on this drive because It is NT and I am repairing it.

Please standby. I am trying to get a snapshot of Pmount and the desktop. Its a task because this comp does not have USB because it is NT. I have to use a floppy.

Heres the picture. I must say that that was fun. After all, I do not use linux other than getting data from a drive (esp a laptop)

This is from the CD.

I have the computer that I need to get fixed tied up right now with this puppy linux. Its a work computer that was giving a lot of weird stuff. I found a bad ram slot and now it won't recognize the nic card in either slot. It won't even recognize another nic card.

Aren't computers fun?
