Thumb drives

I am getting a new computer and am going to load some stuff on a thumb drive. Having never used one before I had a friend show me basically how to do it and they did put some stuff into the drive,BUT I have forgotten what was downloaded to the thumb. How do I tell what is there. If I knew that I could proceed with the process. thanks in advance to any and all that can offer help..URBROJR

Right click "my computer", click explore, go to the thumb drive ( should show as a removable drive or similar)double click on the drive and all the files on the drive shows in the right window pane.
