Hello, I'm Barbara, my os is Windows XP sp2

Connection type: adsl flat, since last Sunday; internal dial-up modem 56k once connected to use the comp for fax, and now disconnected)

Protection programs:
Nod32 (not working properly)
Asquared
Ad-Aware (I followed your instructions to configure it)
Hijackfree

Then, after the problem also:
Avast
Stopdialers
Hijackthis
Spybot
CWshredder (downloaded and loaded after having read the instructions but )it didn't find anything)

I need some help but please, when replying don't use too hard terms 'cos I speak English as a second language!

A few days ago (May 11th or 12th) I entered a site with funny videos, funny pictures, etc. But as I downloaded and opened a .rar file a dialer and a hijacker started to run. I immediately used ctrl+alt+del to terminate the processes, then in these days I tried to fix up the situation but I'm not sure that my pc is fine.

I followed some instructions that a forum tutor gave me but I think that they were only for the adware:
it was like,
- disable "ripristino di configurazione" (I don't know its name in English!)
- execute Windows in "modalità provvisoria" (not in normal mode)
-then I had to delete some lines with Hijackthis (but I think it was all concerning Myway, P2P Networking and Instafink, except these 3 lines)
015 - Trusted Zone: www.archiviosex.net
015 - Trusted Zone: www.redfunny.com
015 - Trusted Zone: www.skymasters.biz

-then I had to delete
MYBAR.DLL
P2P Networking.exe
InstaFinderK_inst.exe

-then delete these 3 folders:
C:\Programmi\Myway
C:\Windows\system32\P2P Networking
C:\Programmi\INSTAFINK

-then delete the cookies, files and chronology in the Internet Options's section
-then I executed Ad-Aware and Spybot
then executed Nod32 (which has been blocked since a few weeks, don't know why)

-I did the reboot in normal mode and I deleted the Hijackthis' lines that I couldn't find in "modalità provvisoria" mode.
-I executed again Ad-Aware and Spybot in normal mode for the same reason.

I'm 100% illitterate with these things but I did the regedit and found some keys that just sounded me strange and had names like these 2 (I think there are others)
"NoNet Autodial", "MigrateProxy" (both REG_DWORD type but I don't know what it means)
both found in HK_LM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\InternetSettings

"Stopdialers" is telling me that the register has been modified and that some connection have been added or deleted but I installed this program after the problem occurred and right before I had to reinstall my Internet connection.

Uhm, the evening that this mess happened as I did ctrl+alt+del I saw a process called something like Tkbell, I searched on the Net and I found that it was connected with "lovegate", but apparently that file is not in my pc anymore.
Moreover, when the mess started a small window appeared with
www.master69.biz
on the top

Then a "The Weather Channel" folder opens as Windows starts and it never happened before!

I mean, there's something strange going.
A question: concerning am I 100% safe with the adsl?

Please help me. Thank You. Really.

Barbara from Italy

Hi scarletb79

Please read through the instructions before you start (you may want to print this out).

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Please download, install and run this disk cleanup utility called Cleanup version 4.0!
http://downloads.ste...p/CleanUp40.exe

Lets see if this will finds any hidden Trojan’s http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
This setup contains the free as well as the plus-version of the ewido security suite. After the installation, a free 14-day test version containing all the extensions of the plus-version will be activated. At the end of the test phase, the extensions of the plus version are deactivated and the freeware version can be used unlimited times. The purchased license code of the plus version can be entered at any time.
Ewido will auto-udate. Don't run it yet.

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Run ewido do full scan save the log when the scan has finnished.

Clear out the files in the Prefetch folder. Go to start> run> type into the box Prefetch and delete all the files in that folder.

Clean out temporary and TIF files. Go to Start > Run and type in the box: cleanmgr. Let it scan your system for files to remove. Make sure all are checked and then press *ok* to remove:

Reboot as normal.

Run cleanup
It will get rid of any malware which may be hiding in your temp folders ( a common hiding place). You will also regain a massive amount of disk space. Here is a tutorial which describes its usage:
http://www.bleepingc...tutorial93.html
Check the custom settings to your liking under options, but be sure to delete temporary files and temporary internet files for all user profiles. Also, cleanout the prefetch folder and the recycle bin.
Reboot when prompted to let it clean out the remaining files.

Please run the following free, online virus scans.
http://www.pandasoft...n_principal.htm
http://housecall.tre.../start_corp.asp
Please post the logs From Panda virus scan ewido.log and HJT.logWe will need them to remove previous infections that have left files on your system.

Kc :tazz:

I have a Lexmark 1150 multifunction but I'll wait your instructions before unblocking it;

-Have you seen Tkbellexe? What is it? Is it fine? I thought it was connected to a malware;

-What are the prefetch files?

-Why is Nod32 blocked (before the malware thing happened)?

I run Panda on-line and it was fine but it took a few seconds to scan the system and I don't know if it's normal; Trend Micro revealed an infected file which name is cocacola.exe, reported as JOKE GESCHENK.A
This file is a joke file and if you open it that would give you a message like this: since you are a very good customer here's a tray for your refreshing Coca-Cola! And then the cd-rom drive would open (pretending to be the tray). The file is still there since I read that it's harmful although some antivirus detect it. But you tell me what to do.

I had already known Panda on-line and Trend Micro on-line since these days, they're really good and I like also Symantec on-line; a couple of days ago it was the only to detect a couple of files (on hidden folders, I mean, hidden at that time) that should have been deleted. Obviously now I've set the computer to show all files and folders.

Awaiting for your answer I say thank you, thank you, thank you!

Hi scarletb79

I think we have the following virus:
WORM_AGOBOT.GEN
http://www.trendmicr...T.GEN&VSect=T#1

Please read through the instructions before you start (you may want to print this out).

Please download and install these programs - don't run them yet!!

Kaspersky Worm Removal Tool tool 2

sphjfix tool 3

Clear out the files in the Prefetch folder. Go to start> run> type into the box Prefetch and delete all the files in that folder.

Clean out temporary and TIF files. Go to Start > Run and type in the box: cleanmgr. Let it scan your system for files to remove. Make sure all are checked and then press *ok* to remove:

Reboot into Safe Mode: Click here if you don't know how to do this.

Run tool 2 Kaspersky Worm Removal Tool save the log post the log with your next post.

Run tool 3 sphjfix save the log post the log with your next post.

Clean out temporary and TIF files. Go to Start > Run and type in the box: cleanmgr. Let it scan your system for files to remove. Make sure all are checked and then press *ok* to remove:

Reboot as normal

Please run the following free, online virus scans.
http://www.pandasoft...n_principal.htm
Please post the logs From Panda virus scan and HJT.log we will need them to remove previous infections that have left files on your system.

Hello Thatman.

I didn't know what "tool 2" and "tool 3" meant, anyway the Kaspersky program could run in dos mode; also I didn't know what to do with the reg file in its extracted folder; first I run the program, then I double-clicked the register file so the pc installed it and after I run again the dos program but it didn't detect anything. I don't know how to post its log because it was not readable (I tried to open it with notepad) ; I'll send it to you as an attachment. --> I tried to do it but it didn't allow me to attach a file with that extention so I changed it from .tmp to .txt. I don't know if I did a right thing.

Here's the Panda on-line log:

Incident Status Location

Adware:Adware/MyWay No disinfected
Windows
Registry
Adware:Adware/Twain-Tech No disinfected C:\WINDOWS\smdat32m.sys
Adware:Adware/P2PNetworking No disinfected
Windows Registry
Adware:Adware/Twain-Tech No disinfected C:\WINDOWS\smdat32m.sys
That is incredible! I thought to have cancelled all the malwares concerning Myway and P2p! Then the previous times that I ran Panda on-line the scan took only more or less one second! I was sure the it hadn't done the scan at all but I didn't know what to do.

Hi scarletb79

Kaspersky online beta scanner: this take over 3 hours better to download the 30 day free trial and run that you will need to dissable your anti-virus program to let Kaspersky run
http://www.kaspersky...oduct=161744315
You can run this antime when not pc is not being used

Download Pocket Killbox and unzip it; save it to your Desktop.
Run killbox and click the radio button that says Delete a file on reboot.
Copy and Paste them one at a time into the full path of file to delete box and click the red circle with a white cross in it.
The program will ask you if you want to reboot; say No each time until the last one has been pasted in where upon you should answer Yes.
Let the system reboot.
C:\WINDOWS\smdat32m.sys

reboot as normal

Download and install EasyCleaner:
http://personal.inet...rts/ecleane.htm

After installing it check under Settings > Registry tab if the backup
option is checked and if the directory it points to exists.
This should be true by default, but check anyway.

Then click OK and click Registry
Then click Search. When it is done select all the items per color,
(most, if not all should be green) and click Remove.
Green is safe to remove
Reboot when you are done and let us know how it goes.

Hello,
I scanned with Kaspersky on line for nearly 3 hours and it reported 2 infected file with 2 viruses:
File: imscan.dll
Infected with: Virus.DOS.Terronia2538
I've read about a false positive (because of the encryption or something like this) about this, and that it comes from Panda on-line.

File: Ssolitare.zip (South Park solitaire card game, is it harmful?I don't think so.)
Infected with: Trojan.Win32.StartPage.oz
I've had this file for years and it has never changed my Internet Explorer's starting page.

I removed the second one, then I used Killbox but since on your previous message it was written "say No each time until the last one has been pasted in where upon you should answer Yes." I said that I wanted to delete the file but I said that I didn't want to reboot the system right in that moment. It was a mistake. Anyway I rebooted and saw that a folder ("!Submit") was created and inside there was "smdat32m.sys. Is it licit? I manually removed it.

I tried to install EasyCleaner( that I had previously downloaded with Kill Box) but it didn't start so I had to download it again. There were about 150-153 keys with the green blink to delete but a friend of mine scared me saying that if I deleted all of them it could be dangerous so I just deleted the ones that had something to do with Kazaa (about 5). I'll send you the log , the log of the installations and the log of the stuff run at pc's start, done with EasyCleaner.

And HijackThis log:

;) I saw that in the following path of the register there's still a Kazaa folder+subfolders+keys(?)

HK_LM --> Software --> Kazaa :tazz:

Here's HijackFree Analysis:
http://www.hijackfre...0a-a7426747a02b

I'd like to avoid all those register keys with EasyCleaner unless they are harmful. ;)
