I downloaded RegiCure and can't open anything on my computer. All my programs are still there as far as I know but I can't open any of them - can't get on the Internet - PlanoStandAlone keeps trying to open too. Have I ruined my computer?? My problem initially was I couldn't download flashplayer - I should have left it at that!

Now I deleted RegiCure and my computer is totally blank.

Reboot and go tot he boot menu.
Try clicking on the line that says bott with last known goof configuration
Does that work?
If not try Safe Mode
Does that work?

If you can get in, either in regular or safe mode, click start, run, then type msconfig, go to the startup tab and you will see many things checkmarked, make a list of them and post them here. Next, I would push crt alt dlt and make a copy of all runing processes, make a list and post them here as well. you may be able to disable the program you downloaded from opening upon startup, thus allowing you to be able to clean the registry and remove this item.

Please do correct me if im wrong here.

Hi nanell212.

As you are well aware, running a registry cleaner is what got you in this pickle in the first place.
We do not recommend any registry cleaners what so ever. Yes I know, a lot of sites and professionals say they are perfectly safe, but, they want you to buy it.

Lets see if we can fix your problem.
Where do we stand?
Is the computer at all bootable?
Can you get in to "last known good configuration" or "safe mode"?
If so, have you tried a system restore to a point prior to the problem.

FYI: You must mean "Panostandalone". This is related to some HP software you have. Just point to the HP cd you have.

Lets hope that the registry is not so messed up that we can't fix it. A registry cleaner will wipe out tons of stuff that is needed to operate.

Do you know if Regcure created a backup of the registry?

What does totally blank mean?

And you haven't answered this

I don't mess with the services.

As for the startup which are in msconfig, there are a few I recognize. The rest I would have to search on.
You can safely uncheck the following:
Realsched
MsnMsgr
Adobe Reader Speed Launch

been used?? I'm not very computer literate.

I am not able to use my internet so am using my laptop to e-mail you.

OK just some points I would like to address:
512 megs of memory is the minimum for XP to run without everything else you may want to run.
What you have in actuality is
512 Total
64 megs of shared
448 Total Left
256 XP uses itself
188 megs left to run everything else.
The so called Sweet Spot for XP is 1 gig of memory
This being the case I would suggest Go to HERE and run the Crucial online scanner.
This will give you the exact memory configuration for your system. You do not have to buy the memory from there, but write down the information and if you need assistance in purchasing the upgrade memory GTG can assist with suggestions also.

What is your response to the question in post #8?

I can't get into the Internet to run the Crucial website. I tried to re-install my Verizon but my computer won't let me install anything - I get the message "Windows Sockets Initialization Failed".
