To do a screenshot please have click on your Print Screen on your keyboard. It is normally the key above your number pad between the F12 key and the Scroll Lock key
Now go to Start and then to All Programs
Scroll to Accessories and then click on Paint
In the Empty White Area click and hold the CTRL key and then click the V
Go to the File option at the top and click on Save as
Save as file type JPEG and save it to your Desktop

Attach it to your next reply

Open Autoruns, click on "Logon" tab, and UN-check:

+ AVG8_TRAY..(I would suggest uninstalling AVG completely and getting Avast. AVG is a resource hog and will slow your system down. Avast is just as good but is updated every day and it's free._
+ SunJavaUpdateSched
+ MsnMsgr

The next file needs to be manually disabled and is only needed if you use multi language on your keyboard. If you do then skip the step.

To turn off just ctfmon.exe go to:

Control Panel then to Regional and Language Options

Click on the Languages Tab then click the Details button

Click on the Advanced tab

Check the box that says Turn off advanced text services option

Click A and then OK

QuickTime Task - you can kill it, but the very next time QT is used, that sucker will reinstall itself as a startup again.
The only way...
Download, and run QuickTime Killer: http://www.softpedia...me-Killer.shtml
After downloading, double click on EnGraphQuickTimeKillerInstaller.msi file.
You may be asked to download, and install .NET Framework
QuickTime Killer will remove QuickTime from start up and kill any running QuickTime processes. This application runs silently at start up and closes itself as soon as it takes care of QuickTime. QuickTime itself won't be removed from your computer, and will be available whenever needed.
NOTE. QuickTime is not a threat, but unnecessary startup, which can't be disabled in any other way.

When done restart computer and then:

Download Temp File Cleaner (TFC)
Double click on TFC.exe to run the program.
Click on Start button to begin cleaning process.
TFC will close all running programs, and it may ask you to restart computer.

Download Auslogics Defrag from the link in my signature below. Auslogics Defrag in my opinion is better because:
It does a more comprehensive job at Defragging
It will actually show you what it is doing
At the end of working it will show you how much speed you picked up
You can view a online log of the files that Auslogics defragged

OK I done all what you said although I had trouble with the temp file cleaner so I took a screen shot and tried to attach it to my post but it wont do it (I think it might be too big) and I cant copy and paste it so I will type it out in a notepad and attach it or paste it here tomorow.

I have also just tried to attach the screenshot of the free everest home edition and that wouldnt work either so I will add that information tomorow too.

Unfortunatly its getting late here and I need to get up in a few hours, so I will look for further information from you tomorow and continue with trying to fix my computer then,
once again thank you for your help tonite and I will be in touch tomorow!

Make sure when you take the screen shot to save it as a JPEG file format. This will make the smallest size for a picture.

Hi bushie.. :)
rshaffer61 asked us to help pick up his topics because his internet connection is dropping out on his ISPs side...
try this...
click on start...run...type in MSCONFIG...press enter...click on start tab...
on a desktop you uncheck everything EXCEPT your ANTI VIRUS and firewall...on a laptop you have to be more selective or your touchpad ...wireless and things like that won't work...you will have to google each one and then decide what you can get rid of in the start up section....

these tweaks will speed you up some...
turn off indexing...click ...START...MY COMPUTER...right click on the hard drive...properties..uncheck allow indexing and compress drive...then click on OK...when it asks about subfolders say YES...it will take a little while to finish...

go to add/remove programs and get rid of anything you don't want or use
get rid of real player... Quicktime ...and Adobe reader
they are resource hogs...lower down I will give you the alternatives for them all..
get CCLEANER
To clean your temp folder, recycle bin, etc..please download this free tool...

CCleaner

Don't install any Toolbars, or other programs, should it ask you!Just
uncheck the option of installing the Yahoo toolbar....if you get
the slim version it does not have the toolbar
thats the one I recommend...

It will put a shortcut on your Desktop.

Before first use...
Select Options then Advanced.
UNCHECK "Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours"
The rest of the standard settings are fine...

Click on CCleaner to start it. Then click "Run Cleaner"

DO NOT USE ANY OF THE OTHER TOOLS...RUNNING THEM MAY CAUSE OTHER PROBLEMS

What JavaRa does is to check if your computer has the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE).
If the version you have installed has been superseded by a newer version the program will download and install this newer version for you, by running Java's update program.
JavaRa then allows you to remove all possible older versions of this program. This way it will ensure that the security of your PC is enhanced will create extra space on your hard disk....get it here

this replace's Adobe reader
Foxit Reader is a free utility that includes some tools that Adobe lacks, including a "typewriter" tool that lets you type text over any PDF, and edit any of the text they contain. not just files that have been set with form fields.
Foxit launches very quickly (in about one second) and it requires no installation... It allows you open, view, print, and change the page layout in PDF files. For some functions, such as the typewriter function, FoxIt Reader shows an ad for FoxIt Reader Pro. However, these functions still work with minor limitations.
get foxit reader

I highly recommend these alternatives to quicktime and real player..
they both are
- Quick and easy install..about 30 seconds..
- No background processes
- Low on resources
- Smaller size
QuickTime Alternative...QuickTime Alternative will allow you to play QuickTime files (.mov, .qt, .3gp and other extensions) without having to install the official QuickTime Player

Real Alternative.. will allow you to play RealMedia files without having to install RealPlayer or RealOne Player.
==================================================================
Starting Disk Cleanup

* Click Start ... Programs... Accessories ... System Tools ... Disk Cleanup
OR
* In Windows Explorer or My Computer... right-click the disk in which you want to free up space... click Properties... click the General tab... and then click Disk Cleanup....

next get diskeeper lite here...
and Defragment Your Computer...click on the diskeeper icon...close the NAG screen...select the C drive if that's the drive your operating system is installed on...towards the bottom click on defrag..the first time you run it it could take 20 minutes or so...run it about every two weeks and it will only take about 5 minutes..YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING ELSE WHILE ITS DEFRAGGING...close it when your done...it will tell you how many fragmented files you had...give us that number when you reply..

you do not have to defrag in safe mode with diskeeper lite and its 10 times as fast than the defragger that comes with windows....
you should time your computer before doing these and then again after doing the tweaks..

Hi Happyrock, thanx for your help!
now just to let you know what Ive done...

1. I done the msconfig as you advised, but when I restarted the pc I got a box that reads-: You have used the system configuration utility to make changes to the way windows starts.
The system config. utility is currently in diagnostic or slective start up mode causing this message to be displayed and the utility to run every time windows starts.
Choose the normal start up mode on the general tab to start windows normaly and undo the changes you made using the system config. utility.

[check box] Don't show this message again or launch the system config utility when windows start.

and at the bottom of the box is a button saying 'OK'

I honestly have no idea what this means or what I should do with it.. Please explain this for me

2. I went to add and remove programs and deleted quicktime, I dont have realtime and I do have Adobe Acrobat 5.0, Adobe flash player 10 ActiveX, Adobe flash player 10 plugin and Adobe shockwave player 11.5. Which of these do I have to uninstall???

3. I went to harddirve properties and unchecked allow indexing and compress drive and I said yes to the subfolders but while it was running it gave me a box that reads-: An error occurred applying attributes to the file
c:\program files\windows liv...\history store
Acess is denied
and under that is 4 boxes a)ignore b)ignore all c)retry d)cancel

can you tell me what to do here??

4. I downloaded ccleaner and ran it with no problems

5. I downloaded JavaRa and ran that with no problems

6. I ran the disc cleanup from system tools

I havent downloaded the Dickeeper yet cause I want to know if this is the same as Auslogics Defrag because I downloaded that yesterday under the instruction of rshaffer61 and it seemed to make the computer run a slight bit faster but still not as fast as it has in the past so, let me know if I still need to do this!

once again I thank you for all your help and eargly await your reply

put a check in box Don't show this message again or launch the system config utility when windows starts....
click OK..
only uninstall Adobe Acrobat reader 5.0....you need the others
when turning off indexing if you get any errors pick ignore all you may have to do that a couple of times...
since you have Auslogics Defrag don't get diskeeper lite but after the cleanup run your defragger and reboot

Thannk you happyrock, I dont know where I'd be if it were not for you!

after I uninstalled the Adobe acrobat 5.0, a box poped up saying-:

Uninstall completed. Some elements could not be removed. You should manualy remove items related to the application.

and I clicked on the details button and it gave a screen which I took a screenshot of and am posting with this reply. Will these items be removed when I restart my pc or do I need to do more??

And it seems my pc has got a lot of speed back!!! yipee!! :)

There is another problem I have and it relates to my computer going slow when I use an application in facebook, should I start another topic here or can we continue and try and deal with it on this topic??

your welcome...and thanks for letting us know... :)
as for the manual remove adobe folder... you could go into the programs folder and delete the adobe acrobat folder but just ignore it...it won't hurt anything...
this is not in my area of expertise but what app are you trying to run from facebook...
