Please delete your temporary files. Double Click My Computer (WinXP: Navigate to Start >My Computer)
You will see an icon representing your harddrive (most likely C: Drive). Right Click on the hard drive icon and click Properties at the
bottom of the fly out window. One the very first tab (General) you will see a button labeled "Disk Cleanup"...click that button.
Make sure the following are checked:
Downloaded Program Files
Temporary Internet Files
Recycle Bin
Click OK and Disk Cleanup will delete those files for you.

Then go to Start > Control Panel > Add Remove Programs and remove the following, if found:

Alexa Toolbar
VBouncer (or Virtual Bouncer)

Then using Windows Explorer, delete these files/folders, if found:

C:\Program Files\VBouncer
C:\Program Files\Alexa Toolbar
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cache32_rtneg? <-Make sure it has the "?"

* Run Killbox.exe.

* Select "Delete on Reboot".

* Open the Notepad file where you saved these instructions earlier, and copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them then press CTRL + C

* Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

* Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt. If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

After your computer reboots, post a new HiJackThis log and let me know how it's running!

Hi bananafanafo,

Please find my most recent HijackThis Log below. I have not seen any popups or any other unwanted activity for quite some time now. Please let me know what you think of the latest HijackThis Log. Am I clean?

I did get an error message the last time I restarted my computer. The error message said that a problem was encountered with winlogon.exe. I wasn't sure if this was a big deal or just a glitch.

You do have one stubborn file.

Set your system to SHOW HIDDEN FILES

Then, I want you to run this scan:

Please download ewido security suite
  • Install ewido security suite
  • Launch ewido, there should be a big E icon on your desktop, double-click it.
  • The program will prompt you to update click the OK button
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Click on Start
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.

Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Reboot into Safe Mode, you can do this by restarting your computer, then contiunally tapping F8 until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode, then hit enter. Then, run Ewido.
  • Click on scanner
  • Make sure the following boxes are checked before scanning:
    • Binder
    • Crypter
    • Archives
  • Click on Start Scan
  • Let the program scan the machine
While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report
  • Save the report to your desktop
While still in Safe Mode, do this:

Delete this file using Windows Explorer (make sure you can see hidden files):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\n20050308.exe

Then while still in Safe Mode, run HiJackThis and place a check next to this item, if found, and click FIX CHECKED:

Close HiJackThis.

Reboot into normal mode and post a new HiJackThis log.

Congratulations your log is clean! Great job on the clean up :tazz:

I recommend checking the http://www.microsoft.com website periodically for critical updates to install.

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Ewido Security Suite <= Protection against Trojans, Worms, Dialers, Hijackers, Spyware, and Keyloggers.

Detect and Remove Programs:
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well known ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
