Firefox freezing/computer wont shut down

Recently my computer has been running really slowly, my firefox browser will freeze and not let me click on anything unless I open another program and then switch back to it. My computer has also not been turning off/going on standby unless I physically hit the power button. As well I will sometimes lose the top bar of a window. Any thoughts?
