Sweet! Still looks good! :tazz:

Ok, first question: Do you want an Internet Explorer window to automatically open when you start the computer??

No, I do not want you to disable anything with msconfig! If it doesn't need to be on startup, then we'll remove it from startup :tazz:

Run HijackThis. Place a check next to this item and click FIX CHECKED:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IEXPLORE.EXE] C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE

O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE <-this is a resource hog that doesn't need to be there.

Or we can just keep doing it like this ( just thought i would throw that out there )

It'll be fine! These also do not need to be on startup:

Run HijackThis. Place a check next to these items and click FIX CHECKED:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime <-Tray icon for QuickTime - available via start > programs
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IgfxTray] C:\WINNT\system32\igfxtray.exe <-Avilable by going to Start > Control Panel

Anything else?

back when i first messed with Msconfig before we got started on this comp. i had it down to the following startup items:

lxbmbmgr
gcasServ
winfv ( but i remember this coming up as a virus or something)
mobsync
avgcc
APC UPS Startup

i had gone and read up on these startup items and had decided which ones we didnt use or need ( and these were the ones left)

Like Controller and CTI Tray something i had removed there programs and now after a reboot i get an error about those 2

I do not recommend removing these from startup:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NeroCheck] C:\WINNT\system32\\NeroCheck.exe <-if you use Nero on this computer I would advise keeping this on startup!
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iTunesHelper] C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe <-it does no good to remove this as it will keep putting itself back regardless of how you disable it!
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [FaxCenterServer4_in_1] "C:\Program Files\Lexmark 4200 Series\Fax\fm3032.exe" /s <- I do NOT recommend removing this one from startup.
O4 - Global Startup: QuickBooks Update Agent.lnk = C:\Program Files\Common Files\Intuit\QuickBooks\QBUpdate\qbupdate.exe <-I suggest leaving this.

Run HiJackThis place a check next to these items and click FIX CHECKED:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SoundMAXPnP] C:\Program Files\Analog Devices\SoundMAX\SMax4PNP.exe <-required if you have custom settings for your sound.
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SoundMAX] "C:\Program Files\Analog Devices\SoundMAX\Smax4.exe" /tray
O4 - Startup: CTI Tray Icon.lnk = C:\Program Files\WinFax\Ctitrayi.exe
O4 - Global Startup: Controller.LNK = C:\Program Files\WinFax\WFXCTL32.EXE

Post a new HiJackThis log.

Fix these:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinFaxAppPortStarter] wfxsnt40.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HPDJ Taskbar Utility] C:\WINNT\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3\hpztsb05.exe

Then there are several programs I want you to install to protect this computer...

Go right ahead, this computer is clean! :tazz:

Ok brb with my recommendations...

I like Ewido, personally, and would suggest leaving it. After 2 weeks, it goes to the freeware version (which means no "real-time" protection), but you'll still be able to get updates and run it to help keep the system clean.
