JohnRH,
it is always good to see a clean log file :tazz:
I Recommend the you do a smartscan Daily and a Full Scan Weekly unless your Smart Scan finds items then I recommend you do a full Scan.
then if need be post a full logfile.
and remember to use the WebUpdate just before you scan.
(there is not always one to download but at least you will always be up to date )

are you having any problems if so please let us know but as I said your log is clean ;)

Thanks for response. The problem I have is my desktop has been hijacked. It displays a red background with a flashing message saying "Danger Spyware" It then gives a link to RAZE SPYWARE. I have not attempted to use this. When it first happened it also pulled in some adware onto the desktop which kept reappearing when it was deleted. I cannot right click onto the desktop.

Looking on other websites I have read that other people have had this problem. Following some advice I saw I have installed and run Webroot Spysweeper, Trojan Hunter Trial, Spybot, C Cleaner. These have removed some malware and have stopped the adware popping repeatedly onto the desktop. However the red background refuses to go. The computer is also running more slowly than before.

I then found your site and ran the ad-aware first, as directed and posted a log which you have confirmed is clean. Do I now run the rest of your suggestions (CW Shredder, Spybot, etc)? Please note I have Norton Anti Virus on my computer; do I therefore not run AVG?

Thanks for any assistance you can give me.

JohnRH,
Can you please download
HijackThis
After you have downloaded it and Unzipped it, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".
When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, and then can you please post you Logfile

Please follow the instructions located in Step Five: Posting a Hijack This Log. Post your HJT log as a reply to this thread, which has been relocated to the Malware Removal Forum for providing you with further assistance.

Kindly note that it is very busy in the Malware Removal Forum, so there may be a delay in receiving a reply. Please also note that HJT logfiles are reviewed on a first come/first served basis.

hi JohnRH and welcome to GeeksToGo! My name is Excal and I will be helping you.

I can see that you have some malware issues. This maybe a few step process in removing it. I encourage you to stick with it and follow my directions as closely as possible so as to avoid complicating the problem further.

Before you do anything else, please create a folder for HijackThis and put it in a permanent folder (like C:\HJT) instead of the Temp folder. This is required because HijackThis will create backups and we don't want them to be deleted

DOWNLOAD PROGRAMS

Please right-click: HERE and go to Save As (in Internet Explorer it's "Save Target As") in order to download Grinler's reg file. Save it to your desktop.

Locate "smitfraud.reg" on your desktop and double-click it. When asked if you want to merge with the registry, click YES. Wait for the "merged successfully" prompt then follow the rest of the instructions below.

Download and install CleanUp! Here*NOTE* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups.
We will use this program later.

THE FIX

Please read this post completely, it may make it easier for you if you copy and paste this post to a new text document or print it for reference later.

1. Click this link to be sure you can view hidden files.

2. Ensure you are NOT connected to the internet.

3. Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

4. Close all browsers, windows and unneeded programs.

5. Open HiJack and do a scan.

6. Put a Check next to the following items:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://uk.red.client...fo/bt_side.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://uk.red.client...arch.yahoo.com/
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://uk.red.client...fo/bt_side.html
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://uk.red.client...arch.yahoo.com/
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://uk.red.client...arch.yahoo.com/

It appears that Logitech Desktop Messenger is having some sort of conflict with your computer. I would suggest uninstalling it, its a not needed program.
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [LDM] \Program\
O4 - Global Startup: Logitech Desktop Messenger.lnk = C:\Program Files\Logitech\Desktop Messenger\8876480\Program\LDMConf.exe

7. click the Fix Checked box

8. Please remove these entries from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel(if present):

Logitech Desktop Messenger <=======Optional see above

9. Please remove the following folders using Windows Explorer (if present):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem
C:\Program Files\Logitech\Desktop Messenger

10. Run the program CleanUp!

11. Reboot into normal mode and please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan - Save the results from the scan!

12. Please post the Active scan log and a fresh HiJackThis log. Let me know how your computer is running and if your desktop is still messed up
