usb mouse dosent work

i am using a targus mini usb mouse on my acer aspire 3100. it works fine while in vista but when i try to install or run the live disk of ubuntu 9.04 the mouse will work fine for a few minutes and then the left click and roller wont work but it right clicks still,i have tried unplugging it and plugging it back in a diff. port but it doesnt help......any ideas?????
