I used to be able to connect to the iTunes store, no problem. About 10 months ago I got a nasty virus on my computer which a nice Microsoft technician cleaned up for me, but since then I haven't been able to access the iTunes store. I have a feeling something got enabled or disabled during her cleaning process, but I have no idea what. I keep receiving the following error message when I try to connect to the iTunes store:

iTunes could not connect to the iTunes store. Make sure your network connection is active and try again

I have internet connection to all other sites just fine.
My internet security is through Trend Micro PC-cillin internet security 14

Running through troubleshooting from Apple,

I tried disabling the Firewall to see if that was blocking it - didn't help
I flushed the DNS - didn't help
I updated to the latest version of iTunes - didn't help
I made sure WIndows XP firewall was set to include itunes - didn't help
I looked at my hosts file and didn't see anything blocking it there

Can someone please help me?
I ran a network connectivity test through iTunes and here are the results:

Hi,

I had the same issue for 2 days, I did all of the same also disabled all the auto exe.on start up and it still did not work. I was able to figure it out by going into my McAfee Security Center and I had to turn off a back ground firewall named firewall plus, even though I turned offed the Windows Firewall I had to turn this off as well.

Hope that helps you

Hey I had a similar problem, or the exact same one and I just solved it. First make sure you're computer firewall (windows firewall) is on and that iTunes is in the 'exception list.' Turn the windows firewall on if it is not on already. Then go to Norton and turn off the personal firewall, permanently, or for how long you want. I found out that it is the Norton firewall that blocks iTunes’s connection to the internet. I solved the problem after two weeks. Goodness I almost went mad. lol Really hope this helps.

My diagnostic log read exactly how yours did.

“Connection attempt to Apple web site was unsuccessful.
The network connection could not be established.
Basic connection to the store failed.
The network connection could not be established.
Connection attempt to Gracenote server was successful.
The network connection could not be established.”
