I have a 15 inch PowerBook g4 1.67GHz. I haven't upgraded anything other than memory to 2GB. It seems that I can't get the system profiler to recognize the optical drive. If I try to run any DVD application like iDVD or something like that it says it can't find the hardware. I did have one problem taking out a movie after watching it. If I try to insert a CD or DVD it spits it out.

I do run Disk Utility to correct permissions on a regular basis. I de-fragment the disk and delete junk off the hard disk. I tried taking the battery out for a while, depleting the power completely then connecting it back. I tried reinstalling the software updates relating to SuperDrive updates but it sees that I have no such thing and refuses to install. I know I have it. I paid for it. How can I make the laptop remember it has it?
