Our dear old president wants us to compete with the asians. So you know what he wants? No summer and Longer hours. I don't know about you, but I use the summer to cool down after a long school year that involves me trying to keep my school rank for my parents.(Apparently RANK 5 isn't good enough) Take off summer, and there are going to be student riots.

Instead of tooling on summer, maybe they should take away MANDATORY GYM CLASS. It's really pointless and prevents me from taking classes I really want to!

I wouldn't mind so much if they took away summer. Mine is so busy there's not really a noticeable difference from the school year, save the fact that I get up a few hours later and sleep a few hours later.

Well its a problem for me because once I finish this school year I have to take summer college classes.(School requires 4 to graduate) If I don't have the time to study because of idiotic normal high school classes shoving homework down my throat, then its all for naught. I also agree with the GYM classes. Natural selection anyone? If you cant keep yourself in shape(Darwinian view) well... that's not my problem and I don't need to be forced into it because of YOUR mistakes.

Gym class actually derails my whole plan to college... (An A in my gym class requires 65+ HOURS EVERY 2 WEEKS AFTER SCHOOL. Ridiculous.)

:) I can hardly keep myself in shape... but then again, studying all day and playing piano aren't exactly the most physically exhausting exercises out there...

You should come to my school... :) The worst we get during the summer is just summer work, which I do the first week just to get it over with. Of course, I have near-perfect recall, so I can actually afford to do that, spend the rest of the summer on biology and SAT prep, and not even blink when the test comes :)

Im actually very in shape. Even though I sit all day and my parents work, I still keep a very slim body and maintain my cardiovascular strength. Young age rocks :)

if they want us to compete with other countries then quit making everyone take general classes. There is no reason someone going into computers has to know geography and history and biology(except for maybe computer anatomy). Other countries spend their whole lives in a course of study then by the time they get into the career field they are specialists at it and come here get the good jobs and make all the $$$. Perhaps the US has something, if not alot of things, to learn from them.
